"Superpowers??" I repeated, stunned.
"Yes, of course!" Replied Davis, his raspy voice making my skin crawl. "Now, don't sound so surprised! Collins twins, you two have superspeed and telechenesis, mr. Barnes, you have super strength. Finally, miss Scott, you have all mind tricks, and most peculiar, what we call time-visiona, you have the ability to look through time."
What the hell was this guy on!? Was the only thought going through my mind. He is crazy to think he can know what we are going through because he ran some tests! We all have superpowers, but we are not aliens! Are we?
I looked over at Ashley who was standing next to me, a look of horror on her face, that I knew mirrored mine. At that moment I knew it was true, we were all in serious trouble.
This is why I'm here. Why we are here. The people Davis work with, they want to use us for our powers. I heard Matt think.
I know Matt. We need to escape.
He looked at me completely in shock, I simply nodded at him.
As soon as Davis left, Ashley and I collapsed together on the ground, and the boys looked like their dog had died. Nobody said it, but we all knew the truth, if we didn't cooperate with these people, we would most likely not survive. We had to get out.
The next time we saw anyone enter the room was around 9pm to give us food. I knew the time thanks to my pocket watch, I think it has time-drift, it glitches so you only ever know the approximate time.
We were all tired, shocked, and barely touched our food, we just went straight to bed, but none of us slept, except Matt, who's snoring sounded like it was trough a megaphone.
I sat in the dark, listening to the steady ticking of the pocket watch against my stomach where it hung. This was the loneliest place on the planet, I missed my family. I lifted the pocket watch in my hand and opened the secret compartment at the back. Inside was a picture of my birth mom, who passed away when I was six. In the backing of the compartment was engraved with the words "Write your own story." It was something her mom used to say to her when she was down.
I suddenly started crying. Remembering the day my dad told me my mother wasn't coming home. Then after that, the day my father introduced me to Jessica. They were getting married. I remember him telling me
"Sweetheart, I know this is hard for you, but this is Jessica. She is going to be your step mom."
To this day, I still don't like her, my dad just let her come in and replace the most important person to me.
My story has been written for me, and against me from the beginning. I want to escape and write my own. I will escape.
"Blair. Blair! What's wrong? Please stop crying."
As she came and sat down beside me, she saw the picture of my mother.
"Oh. Is that your mother?" I nodded a yes.
"She is beautiful, you have her gray eyes. What happened to her?"
"She died when I was six. When she was walking to her car that night, a drunk driver spun off the road and hit her. She died instantly."
"Oh my god! You poor child! Come give me a hug."
As I hugged Ashley, she told me that even if people are gone from our eyes, they are never gone from our hearts. I asked her if she had ever lost anyone.
"Blair, when I tell you this, please don't take pity on me like everyone else."
"Ok, I promise I won't."
"I've lost everyone, Blair, Matt is all I have"
