Roan--- Love Isn't Just a 4 Letter Word💙

"Word is that Skaikru have discovered a safe haven if NightBlood doesn't pull through." You speak sorrowfully to your king and "boyfriend", Roan, whom sits upon his throne.

He smiles,
"That's great news. Then we shall stick to the plan with splitting it 500/500." He exclaims and a few people write his words down to send to the city's paper.

"Great indeed." You agree.

You can't go.
You set others before yourself, its who you are.
There's no way that there could be a chance that you live and someone else who deserves it can't.

One. Week. Later.

"Sire..." You bow your head. "Its time. Everyone listed is headed there." You tell Roan and he stands, and approaches you with a grin that says: I'm going to survive.

"When the radiation comes, we will live." He tucks a few strands of hair behind your ear and tilts your chin to kiss your lips tenderly.

"Roan." You whisper against his mouth.

"I can't go in." You say softly and he furrows his brows vexed.

"What do you mean, you're on the list." His smile falters.

"I can't do it. Not when there is someone else who deserves a spot as much as I do." You admit and he trails his hands down your arms to your hands.

"Why are you so selfless and selfish?" He frowns.

"Selfish? I'm doing the right thing here." You grimace and tug a hand back.

"You don't think about me?" He growls.

"Of course I do. I'm saving your people." You challenge and take your second hand back.

"(Y/n)... I-" he sucks in a breath and stops himself. And there it is. He can't say it. Those three words you've yearned to hear from his lips. Not even on your dooms day would he say it.

"We've been together eight years, Roan." You spit. "Today I die and you can't bring yourself to say you love me?" You scoff, annoyed.

"You aren't going to die." He clenches a fist.

A smile tugs at the corners of your mouth:
"That's my choice."

And it was.
