Everyone had a an awesome  time for the rest of the afternoon, reminiscing and laughing Steph  called her mother, and asked if she would mind taking the kids to school the next morning.

“But why?” Her mother wanted to know.

“Because I know they’ll have a tough time saying goodbye to Jordan, Mom. If there’s going to be a scene, I want it to be tonight, not tomorrow before school.”
He stood behind her listening a thought came to him but he wasn’t willing to share just yet. He wrapped his arms around her waist it’s not goodbye sweetheart he murmured .as he pulled her into his arms.

Jordan and the twins were sitting on the sofa. Steph watched them from the kitchen .She hadn’t told the twins anything about their plans yet ;fearing he would again disappoint not only her but their children as well.

“You promise you’ll call?” Marcie wailed/she must have overheard her mother talking on the phone .Shit
It’s now or never had he thought to himself. He cleared his throat. First off this is not goodbye he told his daughter firmly. I have some thoughts on that but I have to talk to your mommy first he continued .Marcie looked up at him hopefully with a dimpled grin that mirrored his own He swallowed the lump forming in his throat

Steph went into Marcel’s room to pack his school clothes. Michelle followed her.

“So, what’s up with you and Jordan?”

“What’s up with you and Donnie? “Steph fired back.

“We’re good friends who are extremely attracted to one another. “Michelle couldn’t help smiling widely

“Exactly. So what are you gonna do about it? “She demanded
Michelle shrugged

“Okay…so spill” Michelle prodded. Steph sat on the bottom bunk.

“That one’s not so easy. It’s like all of a sudden he’s all I can think about. He’s loved me for years, Shelly, and he wants to take care of me. Of the kids make us a family”

“Well, don’t you want to do that, too?”

“Yes, but I don’t want it for all the wrong reasons. I don’t want him to feel as though he has a debt to repay. She stood.
I mean he isn’t a boy anymore that’s for sure and have you seen him?

“True, he did grow up right,” Michelle agreed.

Soon, Steph’s mother arrived. She was very cool towards Jordan, but he turned on the charm and she soon began to warm towards him. Steph knew they needed a twin free night to make the decisions that needed to be considered.

“Go ahead. Say goodbye to Daddy and Uncle Jon,” Steph whispered to the twins.

Marcel silently hugged his uncle and cried, while his sister wailed in Jordan’s arms. Steph turned away, unable to watch. Her mother finally pried the children away and led them out of the apartment. Jordan quickly went to the bathroom and shut the door. Jonathan wiped away a few tears.

“Okay, this is way too depressing,” Donnie announced. “Let’s play a game or something.”

“I have a better idea,” Jordan said as he came back into the room. Steph patted the seat next to her. He took her hand instead .Come so we can talk he whispered .She looked to Michelle for some sort of guidance a sign something .Michelle just nodded. She followed Jordan out to the car Jon had rented. Take a ride with me please, she nodded.
‘That was a lot harder than I thought it would be,” he whispered. She smiled.
“You’ll see them again soon. And believe me, there will be times that you will be glad to see them go!”
Well I don’t want to see any of you go Steph I can’t’ve always felt like something was missing .Now I know exactly what that something or in this case someone .
What she whispered holding her breath? You he whispered It’s always been you. And now of course the kids.
Let me be what I should have ten years ago. Move to Boston with me .You loved it when you were there for school I know you did .his voice but a whisper as if he was afraid to speak.
What about the twins? Her voice broke.Theyre young we could move your whole family out if you wanted I don’t care I just know I am not making the same mistake twice .He brushed a tear away. I have always loved you I never stopped he admitted .Your leaving tomorrow how is that going to work? She cornered him. I don’t have to you know .He smiled sheepishly. I can travel anywhere I don’t have to stay in Boston. My home is wherever you and the kids are and nowhere else .I’ve realized that the hard way. Steph laid her head on his shoulder. He began to play with a loose strand of hair.  She felt so confused .What was he thinking? Did he realize what he was asking her to do? He rubbed her back soothingly. Baby we can make this work now I grew up I’m nothing like the boy I used to be he murmured .just let me prove it to you His lips claimed hers and she was lost in the world that was Jordan. Once they drove back to Steph’s Jordan questioned his brother “Jon, what ungodly time does our plane leave?”

“Seven.”

The guys groaned. “Couldn’t you do any better than that?” Donnie complained.

“Well, Donnie, since it’s not my plane, I have to take what I can get!” Jon snapped.

Joe stood. “Well, I guess we should go then. We still have to pack.”

Everyone helped clean up. Danny hugged Steph.

“It was great to see you, Steph. Please, he keep in touch.” He held her tightly.

“I will. I promise.”
Michelle gave Joe a very quick hug.

“Michelle, when will you forgive me?” Jordan asked, grabbing her before she could resist.

“When you prove you aren’t out to use my best friend and break her heart again,” she replied, pulling away.

“You don’t have to worry. She looked at him skeptically I’ve grown up and am willing to fix what is broken,” he insisted.

Steph was getting a big hug from Donnie.

“I guess I’ll be seeing you soon,” he said. “Start thinking about what kind of house you want. If worse comes to worse, we can build one. Here Boston wherever you’d prefer”
Finally, everyone finished their good-byes, and the group that was leaving left.

“Wow. I just realized that I get to sleep in a real bed tonight,”  Steph said, flopping onto a chair.

“Well, soon, we’ll have our own room, with a king-sized bed, if you want,” Jordan replied, stretching out on the sofa. Jon looked at him questioningly. “I’m buying a house for us,” Jordan told him. Jon stared at Steph, who blushed. That hasn’t been fully decided on yet she reminded him and then suddenly got up “I’m gonna, uh, get my pajamas on.” She headed for Marcie’s’s room.

“I get the shower first.” Jon went to the bathroom.

Jordan knocked on Marcie’s door.

“Come in!”

Steph wore a robe over her nightshirt. She was brushing her hair, and was nervous to look at Jordan. She had made her mind up and there was no stopping her .She wanted this .She wanted him. She always had. It had always been Jordan there had never been anyone else.

Jon was out of the shower, so Jordan went in. He turned on the cold water and let it run over him.
Steph took a deep breath and quietly turned the door knob. She slipped her clothes off closed her eyes and opened the shower door. He turned around startled. Jordan she whispered as his mouth claimed hers .He backed her up against the shower wall. His lips never leaving hers. I want you she murmured. I want you to baby girl I always have he whispered against her mouth. Let me show you he murmured. He put her hand to his erection. She gasped. He smiled Yea I’ve grown up he teased Mhhmm she murmured as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He let the shower cascade over their heads as he lifted her to his waist. Are you sure? She nodded .He kissed her as he entered her. Willing himself to go slow she picked up the rhythm .Jordan I’m not a china doll. He gasped. He picked up his rhythm and she screamed his name as she bit her lip. They stayed in the shower until the water grew cold and then dried off and got dressed .He grabbed her around the waist .Nibbling her lower lip he whispered Let me stay baby girl Lets look for a house together lets be a family .All she could do was slowly nod. He sat down on the side of the tub and pulled her into his lap .I won’t leave this time I won’t fuck up I promise You better not I can’t handle it She warned him.
Jon was packing his small overnight bag. “Is it okay if I call a certain time every week? Like maybe around seven on Sunday nights?”

“That sounds good. But I won’t tell them, so they won’t be disappointed if you don’t call.”

He froze. “I will call, Steph. And if I can’t call on Sundays, I will call on another day.”

“I’m sorry, Jon,” she said sitting on the floor. “This weekend has really stressed me out.”

“That’s okay.” He sat beside her and put his arm around her. Michelle really has it out for my brother doesn’t her?

“You have to understand something, Jon. She’s been here through everything the past decade. I cried for a week when I found out I was pregnant; Michelle handed me tissues. When I realized your brother wasn’t coming back or calling, she helped me tear all his pictures down and burn them. She bought me cute baby things. When I thought I was going crazy, she would call and offer to baby-sit.”

“So, he’s the bad guy who caused all the problems, and that’s why she hates him?”

“Pretty much.”

“Well, that makes sense, I guess,” he said. He thought for a moment. “You burned his pictures?”

“I was upset. And besides, I needed some kind of closure.” She stood. “I need to get some sleep.”
He stood silently. “Steph, I’m really glad we came down here. Not just because of the kids, though the time with them has been amazing. I’m just so happy that I got to see you again, and apologize for my brother.”

“Jon, you don’t have to apologize for J. All that was a long time ago. We’re all different now. All adults now” She hugged him. He slowly pulled back smiling.
She kissed his cheek. “Good night, Jon.”

“Good night.”

She left the bedroom. She made it out to the living room .Jordan had pulled the pullout bed out and patted the bed in silent invitation. She climbed into bed into his waiting arms. He shifted them so that her head was on his chest. She loved hearing his heartbeat she always had .She absently played with the sprinkle of dark hair on his chest .Do you want to stay here or move to Massachusetts he murmured. I –I don’t know she stammered. I mean a fresh start would be a great thing and I have always loved Mass but uprooting the kids? I just… “He put a finger to her lips .I think they’d really grow and do well there and being young they may not be as upset as you think .Besides if Donnie has his way the new start wouldn’t be just for us he grinned sheepishly .Wha? He nodded .He told me about it earlier when you were on the phone with your mother. See? This is meant to be .Please don’t fight fate. He whispered as he pulled her closer. She fell asleep with dreams of him in her mind as he held her close.

She awoke around four to the sound of thunder. She loved thunderstorms, but really needed her sleep! She sighed and threw back the covers. Maybe a drink of water would help.

She tiptoed out through the living room to the kitchen. Jordan was still sound asleep on the sofa bed. She quietly poured herself a glass of water and went to look out of the sliding glass doors. She wanted to go out onto the balcony, but she knew it was freezing outside. She watched the rain hit the window and shivered.

“Cold?” Jordan whispered in her ear as he wrapped a blanket around her. She jumped a mile into the air.
Pulling her into his embrace to quiet her He turned her around. He pulled her onto his lap as he sat down to the chair on the deck

“Baby, whatever is keeping you awake talk to me “
I’m so confused .I mean this is my city but at the same time all I can think about is being with you. I feel like that awkward teenager that never thought you'd even glance my way she told him honestly
I loved that awkward teenager then and I love the strong beautiful woman she has become despite what my stupid ass has put her through he told her .His eyes looking into hers as if to look deep into her soul. She hated when he did that .It always made her feel so vulnerable. She shivered He tightened his arms around her.Dont hurt me again Jordan please

“I won’t hurt you ever again,” he whispered as he kissed her. The blanket soon fell to the deck floor as they pressed tightly against one another. Her fingers curled in his hair as his hands roamed over her back. He was the first to pull away.

“I think we’d better go back to bed,” he said, burying his face in her hair.  I will go take care of somethings in
Boston and then I will be back baby girl” he murmured She gave him a pained look. I promise besides we have a life to plan and you have to work tomorrow .She groaned .He held her the rest of the night

The apartment was very quiet the next morning as Steph got ready for work and the guys finished packing.

Steph came out of the bathroom dressed in her usual EMT uniform.

“Wow!” Jordan said, his mouth full of Cocoa Krispies. “I didn’t know emts looked that sexy.” She felt a blush on her cheeks
“That was some storm last night, wasn’t it?” Jon went on.

“Yeah, it sure was,” Jordan replied as she sat down next to him and he squeezed her knee under the table.

They finished breakfast and Jordan went back to the living room. Jon stayed at the table giving them a moment alone. Steph followed silently.

“Jordan, this is the only time I’ll say this. The twins are so young. Their hearts break very easily. Please don’t…”

“I’ll be back,” he interrupted. “I promise you baby girl I am not letting go this time. I don’t make the same mistake twice. I want us to be together and be a family.”

“Okay.” She hugged him. Feeling like her world was crashing down again .He was leaving. But she forced herself to not look back into the past. Today the future is where she needed to look,

“Take care of our kids, and yourself,” he ordered. I will be back in a few days he reassured her
