proof or set up?

~two days later~

sitting in the car I listen to the light conversation my sister and Shannon are having. they went on about the little things like maybe they should get an animal before having a kid or who took the trash out etc.

i stare blankly out the window deep in my thoughts. my phone buzzes snapping me out of my trance like state. i pull my phone out expecting a goodnight text from Elijah but its from Lukas.

L: avery i need your help, I'm feeling so lost right now i don't know what to do!

my eyebrows furrow and i reply back.

A: whats going on??
L: bo was arrested sunday night I'm guessing after i dropped her off.
A: what?! what did she do?!
L: she didn't do anything! she was framed!
A: how can you be sure? did she tell you that?
L: i know bo, she told me things no else knows, she would never do that!
A: Lukas calm down, things will sort themselves out, you weren't involved in anything were you?
L: no but theyre trying to blame her for something years ago that she didn't even commit, theyre saying she murdered 27 people and was some major drug lord.

just as i finished reading the text Lukas sent Shannon turned the radio up and it was the news station.

"late last night, the teenager that has caused havoc across the state of Michigan has finally been arrested. gianna bassett or commonly known as bo lockett, was arrested on multiple accounts of murder and drug-dealing chargers around 10pm on sunday." emila looks at through the rear view mirror.

the look on my face was filled with horror, i dont know if bo could actually be capable of doing this. "didn't you have a friend named bo?" emilia asks as she pulled into the parking spot of their apartment complex.

"uh yeah, but em do you remember your friend marcus?" i ask as my mind raced.

"of course why?" she gulped trying hard not to let the horrible memories get to her.

"didn't he die from some big drug dealer who he didn't pay on time?" i asked bracing myself for her emotions.

"uh yeah, what does that have to do with anything? why are you bringing him up now?" we all sit in the car that was now turned off and silence surrounded our conversation.

"because i don't think bo commited those crimes." i said quietly.

"how could you say that? they convicted her of those things she obviously did them. you barley knew her, she came around a few times when she first moved here and she said nothing about herself." Emilia's voice started to be filled with anger.

"you think she killed marcus because he was the first of those 27 don't you?" i gasped in disbelief.

"doesn't matter if i did or didn't the proof doesn't lie."

"but what if that person was framed?" i asked turning to Shannon since she is studying to become a forensic investigator.

"depends, why do you think she was framed?" she asked tucking a blonde strand of hair behind her ear.

"my friend had texted me just before the news came on. he was talking about this and she told him what happened apparently-" Shannon cut me off before i could finish my sentence.

"that's going to look like every case that's ever been handled, almost every murderer says that, unless there is actual proof, an eyewitness or someone takes the fall and admits to it then there is no way of proving gianna is innocent." emilia rushes out of the car slamming the door leaving me and Shannon.

"she isn't capable of that.." i said quietly.

"anyone is capable of doing those things avery, and sometimes they fool the best of us." is all she said before getting out. staying behind in the car i call Lukas.

"why were you ignoring my texts?" is the first thing he says.

"i wasn't, the news came on and emilia was questioning me about bo and then i asked about her friend marcus who was the first of the 27 to be killed in that massacre Lukas."

"you guys think she killed marcus and the other 26?" he scoffed.

"emilia does, Shannon doesn't know and i honestly don't know. i want to believe she didn't i really do but Shannon told me that theres obviously enough proof to put her in federal prison plus she went on the run so it doesn't look good for her Lukas." i explained.

"avery i don't know what to do, david set her up and now shes having to pay for crimes she didn't commit!" Lukas broke down. his sobs filled my ear drums breaking my heart.

"whos david?" the name sounds familiar but i don't know why.

"i have to go i shouldn't have said his name, i promised bo i wouldn't say anything and ive already said way to much to you and Adrian." Lukas hangs up before i had the chance to say anything else.

i know this isn't something i should be dealing with but bo was my friend and Lukas is my best friend i cant let him go through this alone..

"come inside kid its getting late." emilia says opening the car door.

following her inside we don't speak another word to each other the rest of the night but just go to bed in our separate rooms.
