Chapter 10 - Now? Enjoy!

Aria instantly yanked the blade out of her belt, feeling the weight of the weapon mould into her reflexes. Bending her knees ever so slightly and rolling her head along her neck to loosen herself up, she took a single step closer.

Loki didn't move, watching her with a humourless smirk on his lips and experience in his eyes.

She knew it was idiotic to try and take on a God, especially at hand-to-hand combat when she was already injured, but Aria refused to let him make her weak now. She had fought too hard to get here to have her pride be destroyed along with her body.

"Challenging me will not come without its consequences" he warned her, voice deeper than before, venomous even.

"And this is yours" she stated, before charging over. Her feet crunched across the shards off glass, a rhythmic thump that fell in sync with her heartbeat.

Not moving, Loki watched with wild eyes as she swung towards his leg. Effortlessly, he slid to the side, letting her gain her balance easily and move her arm towards his shoulder. Loki gripped her wrist and grabbed her thigh in an attempt to flip her to the floor. Instead, Aria kicked off the wall and wrapped her legs around his neck, trying to drop him. Able to grasp her knees and push her away, he felt her blade graze his arm ever so slightly, and he welcomed the brief sting.

Aria, now free from his view, tugged her gun from the otherside of her belt, the sound of the safety unlocking echoed around the room.

"You're going to let me leave" she ordered, tensing when he jaw clipped in annoyance. "Just let me walk out."

Raising his arms, Loki nodded towards the staircase, face clear of any deceit, which made her more suspicious.

"All it took to get you here was the illusion of a helpless soul, i have no worry about my ability to collect you" he mused, lowering his arms.

"Why let me go at all then?" Aria asked curiously, inching towards the staircase as they spoke.

"I want you to see my power" Loki grinned, a sight that terrified her beyond belief, as he also came towards her, "Return to what is left of your band of fools, mourn the fallen, plan to rescue the others, and when you feel free, safe and happy to be alive, I will descend upon your worthless existence and take everything."

Aria ground her teeth, her feet just brushing the first step.

"You won't find me again" she swore, hating the small quiver in her voice.

"I'll never lose you to begin with" he promised in return, just dodging the bullet that smashed into the mirror on the wall behind them. He turned to her with thunderous eyes, clearly enraged by her continued defiance and dismissal.

Taking another shot, this one finally made an impact, sinking into the skin just below his thigh.

Loki hissed loudly, pinching the skin and tearing the pathetic piece of human metal out of his body, waiting a second till the wound started to knit back together before looking up, yet all he saw an empty staircase and a couple drops of pure, scarlet blood.

Aria launched herself out of the building, stumbling uselessly into a wall and sagged slightly downwards, her breathing came out rushed and jagged, as Aria battled against the onslaught of a panic attack.

Buildings crumbled around her, the air thick with dust and rumble. Everything was empty and bare, she had missed the end of the battle it seems. There were no cries, clashing of weapons, or even the light hum of insects. Nothing natural or unnatural to the environment moved.
