Chapter 31 - Car. Enjoy!

Aria sighed with relief as the car sped down the dusty road away from the castle and the ball and Him.

"We should be entering the earpiece range shortly" Agent Jones told her, swerving expertly down the rugged pathway. Aria wanted to just sag into the chair and pass out, but her nerves about hearing his voice again stopped her. "Here."

"Agent" a voice crackled through, before becoming clearer a few metres down.

"Present" Aria spoke clearly, pushing any shaking from her voice the further away they got. When they turned onto a main road and started speeding down the road, Aria's nerves were almost choking her. She was periodically building up a wall in her mind, but it wasn't succeeding. Loki kept knocking them down, but he didn't say anything. What was he waiting for? She already knew that, he was waiting till he got her back.

"Aria, thank god!" Tony's voice seemed faded, as if shouting to the microphone from across the room. "Let me speak or I'll get JARVIS to hack in again". More mumblings followed until his voice was clear and brought water to her eyes. "Aria, a helicopter is waiting for you. They wouldn't let me come in case something happened."

"We have 4 cars on pursuit" Jones cut across, seeing the lights through the mist behind them.

"Oh fuck" Aria rested her head in her hands and started breathing heavily.

"Keep calm Agent" Jones almost scolded, but she had seen the pity in his eyes, as much as he tried to hide it. These missions weren't for the light-hearted.

"He's not going to get me. He's not going to get me" she breathed quickly, but her chest was tightening quickly, and a panic attack was taking over. "I can't do this. I have to go back."

Multiple voices echoed around her as she declared this, hand poised on the door handle, but she heard the lock click.

"We've spent a year preparing for this, Agent Green" a voice cut through the earpiece.

"He's going to get me, I can't...I can't go through that again" she forced herself not to break completely. Her mind was jumbled as she tried opening the door and nothing happened.

'What's happening?' Loki's voice finally slipped through and she froze. She had stopped with her blockades on her mind, it must have confused him.

'They won't let me come back' Aria admitted timidly, never having felt so weak before in her life. His voice calmed her panic for once, instead of initiating it.

"Aria, you just need to get into the helicopter and you'll be safe" Tony's voice contrasted Loki's but had a similar effect. It was familiar.

"If he gets me..." she started, but Tony cut her off with assurance that he wouldn't.

"The helicopter will fly you out to us. It will be fine, I promise" Tony's voice shook a little, and she knew they knew something she didn't.

"Don't lie, Tony" Aria sighed, leaning back and controlling her breathing. "Whatever is going on, you need to tell me."

"We have trackers on most of the cars, but one just went off the system. His one..." Tony finally released, waiting tensely as Aria stayed silent.

"He'd be going to the Helicopter to wait there" she explained. "That would be the most hopeful point. He would wait till we thought we were free, we need to get there faster, before he does."
