________________________________I pulled away slowly and took in Jameson's reaction to my spontaneous hug. I think he was happy that I had given him at least a second thought. But had I?
I didn't want to use Jameson for my own selfish gain; using him only to feel comfort in a world that seemed to have none. But he didn't seem to notice that as a possibility. He was just happy.
He opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by a persistent knock. I jumped in shock and frowned at our door. Jameson turned, shifting so that his body shielded mine.
"FELICIA!" Someone yelled. Jameson turned to give me a questioning glance. And that's when I burst out laughing. I walked around Jameson, noticing how he flinched as I did so, and opened the door. In stumbled my three, wild, best friends.
"SKYIE!" Cassie yelled, throwing her arms around my neck. I fell back slightly, but was able to catch myself and so I embraced her. She left my hold and Avery came and stood beside me, smiling ruefully.
Then she started ranting.
"We heard that you had an accident by the lake and that you nearly drowned but Bria and Jonah saved you. Is that true? Are you okay? What happene–"
I cut her off with a laugh and the signal of my hand. "I'm fine. I have no idea what happened, though." Avery was saying something in response, but I couldn't hear her as my eyes searched for someone else. I frowned. And here's me believing that our friendship group had expanded.
"Where's Bria?" I asked to no one in particular, intervening in whatever Avery was rambling about in the current moment.
The girls looked around for a few confused seconds, until Avery threw Saph a sharp glare.
"Saph?" She seemed to warn. Saph blanched but shrugged nonetheless.
Avery sighed and then turned to face me, "I'll be back," She told me, squeezing my shoulder. "There's just something that I actually need to do." She threw a pointed look at Saph before striding out of the room.
The room grew silent. I cleared my throat and shut the door, giving Saph an eyebrow raise.
"Seriously?" She only shrugged in response. I sighed and crossed my arms over my chest. The last time I had seen the girls, Saph had been insensitive about Bria's background—and she hadn't apologised. Now she decides that she doesn't want to invite her out—as if that's even her choice to make?
Cassie flopped onto my bed and laid perfectly still why I contemplated what to do. Jameson politely excused himself, but I felt like I suddenly needed his help. As if I needed his advice on what to do about Saph. I shook my head. Who am I kidding? I'm the one with the 'big heart'.
So, with that, I beckoned Saph to follow me, and guided her into my bathroom, away from Cassie and Jameson. I closed the door behind me and watched as Saph walked to my radiator, leaning against it. My bathroom was noticeably bigger than the other girls' bathrooms; my shower was about two metres away from the sink and had more space behind it too. I watched Saph take the room in for a while.
I walked over to the marble sink countertop and leaned against it, crossing my arms over my chest. When nothing was said, I sighed.
"Saph," I began, "What the hell is going on with you and Bria?" I asked. Before Saph could answer, I continued. "Because this still hasn't been resolved, even when I shouted at you in Cassie's bathroom."
