I woke up knowing that I had slept in.
I had slept in.
I had–

"Jameson!" I yelled as I emerged out of my cave of pillows.

He came running out of his room, hair wet and comb in hand.

"Did I miss something?" He asked, assessing my position. I didn't even want to know what I looked like.

"No, but I did," I said, throwing my arm out to gesture to my bedside clock—which I never look at it. "Three hours of something." I had overslept. By three hours.

"Sky, it's only eleven. You've got the entire day left." Jameson replied, completely unaware of my current panic.

"Okay, but I missed the 'entire' morning—so there goes my breakfast—and I don't have the entire day left when it's eleven am and the Halloween party starts at eight pm!" I nearly ripped my hair out.

Jameson was about to reply when the doorknob jiggled. Jameson span around, ready for a threat.

And in came Alexi.

I rolled my eyes and groaned.

"I bring breakfast," she called, appearing with a tray of food. I sat up straight. "Oh," she stuck her hand down her top, "and some new features from my line." She said, throwing a pad and tampon at me.

I glowered at her, then threw the tampon at her forehead. "I'm not on my period." I told her adamantly.

Lexi, who had left the tray on the end of the bed, reached up and touched the place that the tampon had hit.

"Good shot," she said, "I guess you're not on your period then." She continued, picking up the tray and gesturing for me to sit in the appropriate position. I did so and she placed the tray gently on my lap.

"Voila." She said, hands waving over the tray. I had no time for any other comment as hunger consumed me. Then I consumed the food.

After some time, I pushed the tray away, stomach full of food. Jameson and Lexi stared at me with amazement; I had demolished the tray.

"Why'd you bring that anyway?" I asked, checking for food on my face. Because apparently it's difficult to get food into my mouth and not on my eyelid.

Lexi shrugged. "Just being a good friend?" She suggested, hopeful expression on her face. I raised an eyebrow. We still hadn't established where we stood now that I knew that she was my Guardian before she was my friend. And so consequently is my friend because she's my Guardian.

Lexi sighed. "Okay, so I brought it as your good friend who actually isn't your friend anymore—because you figured out that the Academy caused our friendship—who just wants to sit down and talk about this."

I stared at her. I'm not sure who missed the English lesson. Her, or me.

"There's nothing to talk about." I said defiantly, slipping out of my bed and handing her the empty tray of food.

"Well there has to be something, because otherwise I have absolutely no one to talk to." She complained. I tried not to face her as I sought out a hair tie.

"Talk to Jameson. You'll be spending enough time with him." I found the hair tie, grinning triumphantly and leaving the two with that last statement as I disappeared into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth.
