"What? Why?" I asked, thrown off by the sudden mood change in the room. It was suffocating. And I found myself gulping down air as if the room's supply was all that was left of oxygen.

"Report you? For what?" I asked when he didn't respond.

He took hesitant steps forward. "Because I realised something earlier." He told me.

"What? What did you realise?" I asked.

"That I–" he paused and clenched his jaw. "That you–"

I frowned. "Hey, it's okay." I told him, making sure to flash him my most comforting expression.

His eyes filled with wonder as he watched me.

And then he grabbed my face.
And kissed me.

At first it was confusing, like taking a different route to what you usually would to get home. These lips were unknown to me. The only person I had really kissed was Jameson—and Carter.

Nonetheless, I relaxed into it—no matter how much time it initially took for me to feel comfortable.

Jace knotted his fingers in my hair at the nape of my neck and pulled me in closer. I pushed myself up onto my tip-toes, noticing that he was taller than Jameson, albeit not much. Perhaps it's because he's older.

He tasted sweet, whereas Jameson tasted like fire, and every touch and caress scalded my skin; he had branded me with his lips. But Jace's was different. Different to Jameson's and different to Carter's. On a scale of Carter to Jameson, I was interested.

And then someone walked into the classroom.

Jace and I jumped apart, but it was obvious that we had once been closer than we now stood.

We stared at the person who had walked in. They stared back.

"Oh my–"

Then she span around and walked out. I jumped out of Jace's hold. Shit. Shit. Shit a brick.

I sprinted down the corridor. "Mel!" I yelled. But it was no use—lunch was over and people were filing out into the appropriate hallways.

Amelia Brown already had one of my secrets. And now she harboured another. But it was a secret that not even Jameson knew.

That I had kissed Jace Clarke.

"Mel!" I screamed, ignoring the weird glances that I was getting from observers. I had to get to her. I had to ensure that this secret was kept. If it wasn't, Jace would surely lose his job.

Someone sidestepped so that they obstructed my path. I tried to push them but their arms held me still.

"I've found our Special One!" Great. Good cop and bad cop are back. Tweedle dum and tweedle dee. Alexi and Jameson.

"Not now, guys." I complained, trying to wiggle out of Lexi's hold.

"Why, Special One, whatever's the matter? Console in us." Lexi wrapped an arm around my shoulder but I scrunched up my face in disgust.
