PHOENIX POV
I can't say I've never fantasized over getting Jungkook's number, because I certainly have. I pinched my cheek and slapped my leg a few times to make sure I wasn't dreaming, that I wasn't about to wake up in the middle of math learning about the diameter of a circle.
After I plopped onto my oh so soft bed, I spent a good 4 minutes debating over how I was going to respond. My ideas:
"Hey boy, you wanna a piece of-" No. Definitely no.
"Hi." No. Too plain.
This continued for another few minutes, coming up with a response and immediately discarding it. My phone suddenly vibrated in my hands again, ripping me from my long chain of thoughts. A new text.
"Look, if you don't respond to me in the next 7 seconds, I will call you over and over until you do." Oh come on! That was so not fair.
"1"
"2"
"3"
Then I responded. "Hello, my name is Phoenix. I'm 16 years old and I live in Los Angeles California." Lame, I know. But hey, I was nervous! I figured he should atleast know some background information about me.
The loud ring from my phone made me drop it onto my floor. I yelped a little and reached for my phone. Thank God my floor was carpet. I lowered myself onto the floor, took the biggest breathe of the day and accepted the call.
As soon as I answered, I heard Jungkook's iconic laugh from the other side of the line. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Are you kidding me? Your name is Phoenix? As in the bird?" His laughter continued.
I was actually on the verge of laughing myself, his laugh was just so darn contagious. "Yes, what's so funny?" No one had ever found my name funny. The most I've gotten about my name was pretty or unique.
He said in between laughs, "Still remember how I said you sounded like a bird? And what's with the robot text?"
Heat rushed to my face. How embarrassing! "Ya! You shouldn't be saying anything, you're the one who's called Seagull!"
"Hmm, You sure seem to know a lot about me. Are you sure you're not crazy fan?" he asked, still laughing.
I would've been a lot more pissed off if he wasn't laughing while saying it. Act cool Phoenix, Act cool, I thought to myself. I just changed the subject, "So what are you doing calling me this late at night?"
His laughing stopped. "Well, I didn't want to leave you with the impression that I'm a total jerk. There have been multiple times where fans have broken in pretending they're a new member of the stylist team and doing crazy things that a normal person would NEVER do. Trust me, I was just protecting myself."
He seemed sincere, but I didn't want to give in just yet. "Yep, totally. You were definitely just trying to protect yourself. Not trying to be a jerk at all." I said with just a little too much sarcasm in my voice.
His voice was harsher this time, "No, Phoenix seriously." Hearing him say my name so intensely made me blush slightly. "There was once this fan who tried to stab Jin. It was a mess, it took 4 security guards to pin her down.
And then there was that time that a fan started yelling rape when I agreed to take a picture with her outside the men's bathroom. Do you know how much we had to pay the reporters to clear that up? Then there was the time th-""Okay I get it! You go through a lot of crazy things. But it still wasn't right to just assume that I was one of those psychotic fans." I looked at the clock on my nightstand. 2:00 am. "Hey it's getting late, I forgive you. Go to sleep." I didn't want to continue the conversation. What I really wanted in that moment was some good sleep. And to be honest, I probably would've passed out if I kept listening to his voice. The way he said Phoenix so casually. I could imagine him lying on the bed at his hotel, talking to me. Laughing at my name. The thought brought butterflies to my stomach.
