Racing nerves felt normal now. All of the people in town were informed about the war. The ones wanted to fight in it arrived at the field in front of the Palace everyday at dawn and practiced until the evenings. It was a wide, long field made for those to learn how to simply kill the demons in the war. Raymond and other senior professors were busy making them ready for the battlefield as I stood in the balcony, watching them. I was new at this so The King's order for me was to stick around Nick and help him with whatever he asked for. Our sour fight earlier didn't affect the behavior much. We were normally bickering and at times, genuinely helping each other in the tasks. He was called by Adrian when I stood in the balcony and let my attention get drawn towards the angels on the field. They were practicing swordfighting, trap spells, death spells and defenses against the demons. My training was fully and finally complete. All I lacked till a few days back was the control from the Vixen and I had that in control now too. But I'd get stronger only with time and more experience. Feeling braver and stronger than before, I returned back to the hall to arrange all the armors and swords alongside each other for the soldiers and ministers. In a minute, I heard footsteps coming in the room's direction. Adrian and Nick arrived, followed by numerous ministers and soldiers. The room filled and I couldn't bring myself to ask what they were here for as I knew they'd start speaking soon.
"The battlefield strategy has been discussed." Nick informed me.
"What? Without me?" I senselessly asked.
"You're new at this, Aileen. You don't know how it works." Adrian told me, not failing to hide his cruel smirk. I shook my head at him but realized, he was speaking the truth.
"So, can I know about it at least?" I crossed my arms at my chest, leaning on the table behind and asking.
Adrian opened a map, handed over to him by one of the ministers and laid it on the long table in between of us. I could see the battlefield on it, that gave me chills.
"That's what they all want to know. Nick, Aileen and these soldiers will be at the left side behind the elderly angels of church gate." He pointed his finger at the left side of the battlefield drawn on the map. "The newly turned adults— they've been trained well, they'll be behind the professors at the right side. In the middle, I will be there with my built army. There will be absolutely no change in that—"
"You said you were going to involve me in the army." Nick interrupted.
"Yes, Nicholas but that was before the war was announced so soon and unexpectedly. We don't have time. We have our own strategies which will take time to teach you." Adrian answered to him.
Nick's face looked defeated and disappointed, lacing with rage. But he just simply nodded at Adrian's commands, bringing back everyone's attention to the map.
"As I was saying, I'll be in the middle with my army, covered by the rest of the ministers from behind. The other soldiers will cover all of us from the front, like a wall protecting the battlefield. Father will be right with us, but his strategies are not to be revealed. The newly trained will attack the forwarding demons from the sides, taking them by surprise. They aren't aware of our newly created army."
Everyone nodded, understanding their own parts.
"Everything clear? Everybody at their own sides must develop their own tactics and be clear about it. I'll be going now. Much to do." With an arrogant swish, Adrian left the room followed by the soldiers and ministers, leaving Nick and I alone.
Nick still looked upset about what Adrian said. I figured and went closer to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"What?" He snapped his neck in my direction and I took a few steps back, finding his green eyes glittering with anger.
