The Skeleton Princess

Chapter 7 - Preparation

Luna, Max and Lucy are suddenly attacked by more cannibal zombies, Lucy shouts "Don't let them bite you!"

Luna turns around and looks at Lucy asking "Why?"

Lucy answers "Because you don't know where their mouths have been, right?"

Luna gives a blank stare at Lucy and says in a monotone voice "Don't scare me like that."

Meanwhile, Max is slashing through the zombies and he shouts in an angry tone "Luna! I may need your help here."

Luna turns to face the zombies and runs with her scythe in her left hand, it starts to glow red and Luna swings, releasing a beam of red light.

It cuts right through the zombies, Luna then slashes through each of them being banished with a poof of red smoke and ash.

Luna and Max finally kill all the zombies, but their victory is short-lived because the ground starts to shake like an earthquake.

The three begin to run, the beating noise was getting louder and louder.

That was until they finally reach the room where the source of the beating sound came from, it was a heart.

The heart of the mountain, Luna looks at the heart and asks "Why is there a heart here."

Max answers "It's the mountains, the mountain is alive. That's why it suddenly appeared without any knowledge."

The heart beats in a rhythmic tune almost like it's singing.

Lucy points towards the heart and says "I have some bad news, look."

Luna and Max look where Lucy is pointing and gasp, the exit to the cave is blocked by the heart.

Luna with sadness in her eyes says "Is this the only way out?"
Max looks behind him and sees the tunnel entrance blocked and says "Yes..."

Luna looks down and says in a tone of sadness "I'm sorry.."

Lucy touches Luna's shoulder and she says "I'll do it"

Luna looks at Lucy in disbelief, the zombie girl takes out a potion from her bag.

It's an explosive potion, it's orange with a symbol of an explosion.

Lucy says in a sad quite tone "It'll be instant so it'll feel no pain."

Luna nods and Max stays quiet his eyes are purple, Lucy runs up to the heart and places the bomb next to it.

With tears in Lucy's eyes, she screams "I'm sorry!"

A big explosion happens and just like Lucy said it was instant, the only sound was the echo of the explosion but then there was silence.

No beating, no earthquake and not a growl of a cannibal zombie, only dead silence.

That silence was broken by the sound of Lucy crying on the ground saying "I'm sorry.."

Max walks to Lucy and holds her tight telling her in a calm tone "It's okay, it wasn't your fault."

The duo holds each other for a long time while Luna looks at the two with nostalgia because she remembers when her father would do that when Luna cried.

Lucy finally decides to tell her friends about her by saying "I am a special type of zombie, I was once human but I've never been bitten."

Luna and Max have a surprised look but Lucy carries on "I was a baker girl, until I met HIM. He was so kind to me and helped me, but then one day he asks if I could join him for a stroll."

Tears begin to roll down Lucy's dead face "He drugged me and took me to a dark room, he hurt me to the point I wanted to die. Until finally he cut my arms and legs which eventually killed me, but because of the amount of sadness I had, my body refused to die."

Lucy wipes her tears away "Then Death came and took me to the Underworld, but I didn't want to be left alone so I begged him to take me with him. He accepted and took me to the castle where I became a maid and met two amazing people."

Lucy smiles at Max and Luna who are still in shock.

"The type of zombie I am is a mourning zombie."

Max looks at Lucy and just says one word "So?"

Lucy looks at Max with surprise, Max carries on "Just because of your history or who you are, doesn't change the Lucy I know."

Lucy hugs Max and says "Thank you, Max."

Luna doesn't say anything because she knows she can't make Lucy as happy as Max can.

After a few minutes pass everyone prepares to leave without saying anything, the trio stays like this until they reach back to there home.

Max and Lucy go get some rest while Luna greets her knights and prepares a speech to her skeletal army.

Luna summons a magical circle which is like a screen, the knights can all see it.

With her red and blue intimidating eyes, she says in a commanding tone "My skeletal servants! Thanks to the witch of the Underkeep domain. I have found out the location of the human camp and the black gate!"

The knights cheer with a battle cry, but Luna carries on "We will attack when the twin moons are out, so rest and prepare before then."

As soon as the screen turns off, Luna falls back onto her throne with tiredness.

She looks at where she got bit by the zombie but it's completely healed.

Now that she thinks about it, she has been able to use the scythe like a professional even though she has never used it before, perhaps because it's connected to her soul or maybe some other reason.

Luna shrugs it off and decides to have a quick nap on her throne chair, she looks left at her father's before sleep takes her away.
