Chapter 108
Harry's POV
Thick, white covers swaddle my body and my head is heavy. I'm not sure how long I've been sleeping but I still feel slightly intoxicated and I'm regretting my decision to drink.
I roll over and extend my arm for Karleigh but the warmth that her body offers doesn't satisfy my skin. Bolting upright, I search the covers for her small form, only to find nothing.
A wave of nausea washes over me from sitting up too quickly. My hand flies through the air and clamps over my mouth to prevent the rising bile from escaping my lips. I jump up from the bed and shove the door to Karleigh's bathroom wide open.
My body crumples over the toilet and the contents of my stomach are released into the water of the porcelain bowl.
Soft feet pad into the bathroom but I don't look up, as I continue to hurl into the toilet. A soft hand reached down and hold a warm rag against my face.
"Shit are you alright?" Karleigh's tired voice asks me.
I don't give her a response, puke pouring from my mouth and nose, burning my throat. Orange chunks are floating around in the toilet, and Karleigh gags as she stand behind me. Taking the tag from my forehead, I swipe my mouth and face.
"You can go, I'm fine." I attempt to assure her as I start to dry heave.
"You should probably stop drinking." She humorlessly laughs.
"I've said that to you before." I say slowly, glancing up to look into her blue eyes.
Her lips are pursed and she looks down at the floor. I know her well enough to know that she's uncomfortable.
"Sorry." I murmur.
Standing up from my crouched position and flush the toilet. I turn the sink water on and start rinsing out my mouth, a small bottle on listening catches my attention on the counter and I swallow a large gulp to slush around inside my mouth, before spitting it out into the sink.
Her voice almost goes unheard, from the sound of rushing water, but I quickly turn the sink off. "You have nothing to apologize for." She whispers softly, still avoiding my eyes.
"I keep talking about...before."
"It's not that, it's just I hate that I can't remember." Karleigh says, looking down at the damp rag in her hand. Strands of her blonde hair drape into her face, and my annoyance spikes slightly at the loss of seeing her eyes.
With my thumb and forefinger and I take her chin into my grasp and tilt her head up to look at me. Her eyes stay closed for a moment, but they flutter open and stare into my eyes.
Emotion flickers behind her deep eyes and I can read each of them like a novel. Confusion is the most obvious emotion, but it stirs something inside of me as I wonder what she's confused about.
Her memory? Or something different, something more?
Our eyes are still locked and Karleigh releases a long sigh, her breath fanning against my skin and I take in her scent.
"I hate that too," I breath. "that you can't remember."
"You can't keep coming around anymore." Karleigh chokes.
I'm nearly knocked off balance from her words but I stabilize myself and take strong deep breaths. "What?"
"I-I don't remember you, and I know that we had something... I don't want to hurt you, and that's what I'm doing." She justifies.
