Chapter 109

Karleigh's POV

His breathing is irregular as I exit the bedroom, his faint breathing behind me is the only hint of his presence. I trudge down the hallway out of my bedroom, my heart speeding from the events of tonight.

My hand rises to my mouth, the pads of my fingers grazing my lips in remembrance of the burning kisses he left along my skin. As I make my way back to the couch, I shake my head to clear my head of Harry.

Harry.

The stranger, who isn't much of a stranger.

I feel as if I've known him forever, or maybe I feel as if I want to know him forever. Regardless of my feelings, he won't be around much anymore. If he didn't didn't get the hint from my words, he understood clearly from my actions.

I told him he couldn't come around anymore, that I don't want to hurt him. By the look in his eyes, I could tell it'd take much more to get rid of him than just telling to go away. But after the water works that I released, I know he'll vanish before I can even blink.

I'll be gone in the morning...

The sound of his promise echos through my head and my body crumples against the cushions of the couch in the living room. Pulling my knees to my chest, I wrap my arms around my legs and clamp my eyes shut.

But tonight, just like most other nights, sleep is not my friend.

**

Muffled voices pull my from the light sleep I was barely submerged in. Shifting from my position, I lean forward to see what the ruckus is about.

The eyes of Mom and Aunt Jocelyn peer back at my sleepy figure.

"What's going on?" My tired voice asks, just as my eyes land on the suitcase that's in Mom's hand. It then dawns on my that today she leaves, back to Atlanta. "Oh yeah..." I add.

"I'm just dropping her off at the airport, I'll be back soon, go back to sleep." Aunt Jocelyn eases and I nod, lying back into the sofa so I can fall back asleep.

**

He wasn't lying.

Because sure enough when I enter the closed door of my bedroom, nobody is to be found. Harry has managed to mysteriously vanish just as he had arrived.

A small fragment of me was still hoping he'd be here so we could discuss what happened last night, but I swallow down the feeling. My head aches and I feel the urge to take a shower, even though I took on just before I went to bed last night.

My feet carry me to my bathroom as I peel of my clothes one layer at a time, until I'm standing in front of my bathtub. The bathroom is already foggy but I don't bother turning on the fan to clear away the steam. Instead, I just step into the shower and allow the scorching beads of water to cascade down my back and shoulder.

Instinctually I reach for the shampoo bottle, but it's as if my fingers forget to grasp onto it. The bottle slips from my grip and tumbles to the shower floor. My movements are slow, and I look down at the shampoo bottle that's now lying at my feet. The sound of the falling water is louder as it pounds against the plastic of the shampoo bottle.

Bending down, I reach for the bottle but before I can grab it, I loose my balance and slip. My body collides with the hard floor of my shower and I wince at the throbbing feeling that's occurring near my hip. With a shove, I roll onto my butt and sit.

The water continues to pour down on me, it's temperature too hot, but I'm too lazy to adjust it. My hair is drenched and water drops from my eyelashes, fogging my vision.
