Chapter 117
Karleigh's POV
When I awake in the morning, the sheets as pushed aside and balled up, leaving my legs exposed to the cool wind of my ceiling fan. I close my eyes again, wishing I didn't have to awake up and face what today has in store.
Tossing my legs over the side of the bed, I stand to my feet and walk to my closet. The few items of clothing that I bought from the shopping mall yesterday, hang neatly amongst the rest of my clothes.
Instantly, I reach for the cute peach, lace, floral shirt that buttons up the front. I pair the cute blouse with the light faded maternity jeans that I bought. The shirt hugs my curves comfortably, and doesn't accentuate my pregnant belly, thank goodness. Not that it matter considering I'm telling Harry anyways.
My eyes drop down to my bare feet and for a brief moment I actually consider wearing wedges. That is, until I notice how swollen my ankles are, and I compromise with wearing a pair of nude colored flats that match my neutral outfit.
My phone chimes from the dresser in my bedroom and I walk towards the sound of the beeping. The screen is glowing to life and I take the device into my palm.
Harry's name is lit up across the screen and I swipe to answer his call. "Hello?" I softly speak.
"Karls, hey! Where'd you wanna go today?" He asks, his tone seeming upbeat.
I shrug as if he can actually see me. "Doesn't matter to me."
"What about the diner?" Harry's suggests as if I know what the diner is, but I don't have time to decide on the perfect venue.
"Uh, yeah, sure." I absentmindedly agree.
Harry continues to talk, but I'm not listening to exactly what he's saying. "Hey Harry?" I interrupt him mid sentence.
"Yeah?"
"I'm leaving the house now, I'll see you at the diner."
"What? No, let me come pick you up." Harry rushes to offer.
"No!" I snap too quickly, in a harsh tone. "I can drive myself, relax." I try to say in a softer tone to make up for my cruel response.
Silence comes through the phone for a moment before Harry clears his throat. "Alright, see you in a few minutes." He says, then immediately hangs up, not giving me time to respond.
Great, I haven't even dropped the bombshell on him, but I've already managed to piss him off.
Aunt Jocelyn is leaning against the counter in the kitchen and I approach her, grabbing the keys from beside her. "I'm leaving, to meet Harry." I say, careful not to meet her eyes.
"I'll drive you." She offers much too quickly. .
"I can drive my god damn self!" I snap.
Aunt Joc retaliates slightly, seeming startled by my outburst. "Sorry, I'm just tired of being babied." I sigh.
"Sorry." She apologizes as if it's her fault, throwing her hands up in surrender.
I shake my head, dismissing her apology. "Where's the diner?" I cluelessly ask her.
A small smile lights up her face, as she breaks down the directions to the diner. With the keys in hand. I make my way out the door to her Prius.
**
The parking lot of the small diner, confuses me. I must have gotten the wrong place, this doesn't seem like somewhere Harry would go.
But sure enough, I see his shiny car parked in the corner of the lot. He must already be inside.
