Chapter 102

Harry's POV

Jocelyn's driving skills are much more graceful than Karleigh's will ever be, and that thought alone makes my heat shatter at the reminder of how she ended up in her current situation.

Jocelyn's tiny hands clutch the steering wheel for dear life, as if, if she lets go she'll fall deep into a dark abyss of nothingness. We've been in the car for quite a few minutes now, and neither of us are making any gesture to encourage small talk.

Not in a time like this, when everything's so heavy.

I know if Karleigh were here right now, she and I would be in the backseat together and she'd be constantly complaining that her aunt was watching us sneak kisses from her rear view mirror. Then she'd hiss through those perfect teeth of hers, and tell her aunt to stop snooping and that we're adults.

The corners of my lips tug up at the thought of Karleigh's sassy attitude, and it's quickly replaced with a frown as I think about how long it could be until I finally get to hear that sassy tone of hers...if ever again.

That thought alone, gives me shivers.

I clear my throat to speak at the same time that Jocelyn's lips part to speak.

"Go ahead." I encourage.

"Catherine's on a flight to Dallas, I haven't told her all of the...details, quite yet." She ponders her thoughts aloud to me, and I nod.

Her small Prius pulls into the lot of an IHOP and she parks under the shade of a cluster of trees. She moves to unfasten her seatbelt but makes no movement to get out of the car. Instead, her body is angled towards and those blue eyes of hers, that are so similar to Karleigh's, pierce into my soul.

With a sigh she breaths my name. "Harry, oh Harry." She coos, placing her hand on my shoulder.

Her gesture is kind, and motherly like but I'm not sure how to respond to it. Before I'm given much time to think, Jocelyn bursts into tears. Choked breaths fight to bring air to her lungs, and she crunches over her steering wheel, gripping it tightly for support.

Awkwardly reaching over her console, I place my hand on her shoulder and try to rub soothing patterns into her back. My idea of comforting at the moment, is shitty and hollow, as I honestly need some comforting myself, though the only person who could sufficiently manage that is my Karleigh.

Jocelyn fights to steady her breathing, as a few more tears drip from her eyes.

"Lets go eat some breakfast, yeah?" I offer, in my husky voice and she nods, climbing from the car and swiping the smudges of makeup from under her eyes.

We make small talk as we approach the double doors to the diners and Jocelyn lets out a long sigh.

"They're running some tests on her, because Dr. Pope thinks there might be a minor issue that could negatively impact the state of coma she's already in. He's trying to figure out how fast he needs to act." Jocelyn tells me.

"ASAP! Whatever he needs to do, do it. We don't have a lot of time to waste, neither does Karleigh. Just think about if her condition gets worse!" I gush in a speedy tone, my words running together.

"You need to calm down. They're professionals, they can handle this." She attempts to soothe me with her red rimmed eyes.

I roll my eyes. "Oh please, they probably cheated their way through med school." I blurt and Jocelyn chuckles softly to herself.

A sign in the entrance of the restaurant says "seat yourself" and Jocelyn leads the way to a booth near the back of the diner. A strawberry blonde girl who looks about seventeen, approaches us with a kind smile.
