I woke up to the sound of loud music blaring from the windows of Jason ad Patty's house. I look over at the clock. 4, I only got 30 minutes sleep.
Patty! I need to talk to him. I need to apologize for being a bitch earlier.
I pull myself out of bed, clothes wrinkled, go down stairs and out the front door.
I walk up to their door and knock loudly so they can hear me over the music. It takes a minute but eventually Jason comes to the door. He's wearing a black shirt with the YouTube logo on it, blue jeans shorts, and he's bear foot.
"Oh hey." He says with a greeting smile.
"Hey, um is Patty around?" I ask.
"Yeah. Last time I checked he was up in his room sulking." He said pointing up the stair case.
"Sulking? about what?" I ask.
"He said something about making a mistake with... I think it was you actually. "
"Oh. That's why I'm here. Could you maybe show me to his room?" I ask.
"Yeah. Follow me."
I follow him up the stair case and take a right, down a hall is a single door.
"Here ya go. Good luck." He says.
He walks down stairs leaving me alone with my jumbled thoughts. I hear the faint noise of a guitar which calms me. Kinda.
I lightly knock on the door.
"Christian go away! I told you I'm not in the mood." He shouts through the closed door.
I slowly open the door and stick my head in.
"It's me." I say shyly.
"Oh. Hey. I didn't know you-"
"I just wanted to apologize for being kinda..... Bitchy earlier. I hope we can still be friends." I say quickly. My words jumbled together like my thoughts.
"B-Bitchy? who told you- what made you- you weren't bitchy." He says setting aside his guitar.
"Yeah I was. I kept snapping at you and just. I was just being. Bitchy." I state.
"No no no. I shouldn't have been sarcastic and stuff. I just- I though I had upset you."
"Upset me? what made you think that?" I ask. He was quiet for a little while before finally speaking up.
"I. I-uh. I saw you crying. Through my window." He says finally.
"Oh...That wasn't you. Trust me." I said and looked at the floor. "I really need to close those curtains."
"No. Don't." He says quickly. I look at him puzzled. "Um I mean, you.... you need sunlight!" he says quickly. I laugh lightly and he smiles.
His feet padded across the carpet softly before they stopped in front of me. I swallowed uncomfortably and looked up to meet his piercing blue eyes. I hadn't realize that he was about 2 inches taller than I was.
"You can tell me." He says with furrowed eye brows.
"Okay." I say softly.
We go and sit on his bed. I sit rather close to him, close enough for our elbows to touch.
"When I was, oh, maybe sixteen, my parents started to fight. I never understood what it was about. All I know is that my little brother Jake was terrified. He could never take yelling." I explain.
"You have a little brother?" he asks.
"Yes. He's ten now and my dad has full custody over him. I worry. What if my dad hits him, and I'm not there, and neither is my mom, and Jake is all alone with him, what if Jake get tired of him and runs away, and I never see him again and what if-"
"Don't over think things." Patty says quickly.
"R-right." I stutter getting back on subject. "Well. When I was 17 my mom warned me that when she wasn't home to protect Jake, I needed to. And now I can't. My dad was to stubborn in court and fought for custody over Jake. When I was 19 my mom was done and so was I. And now. Here I am. Far away from my father and my brother. And over thinking my life all the time with a short temper when it comes to them."
"You forgot 18." He reminds.
"I'll never forget when i was 18. I wish I could." I pause thinking of the awful year. "I began to cut that year, and was often called slut or vampire because I wasn't into the same music as others and wore a lot of black."
"Sorry. I shouldn't have asked." He says.
"It's alright."
"Why don't you just forget for a while." He suggests.
"You think I haven't tried?" I ask. "Sitting alone in silence doesn't help. What else am I supposed to do. My mind wanders all over the world." I state.
"Here. Let's just. Make you forget. We are going out later. Why don't you tag along?" he asks.
"Yeah alright." I smile.
••••••••••••
"We'll meet them there." Patty says getting into the drivers seat.
He reaches over to the glove compartment and pulls out some gloves.
"What are those?" I giggle and he puts them on.
"Their gloves." He says looking over at me.
I turn away trying to hide my laughter.
"See I told you they are goofy." Jason laughs in the back seat.
"Why are you laughing? I like them! they make me feel like Ryan Gosling in Drive." He smiles.
"What ever you say sir." I say straitening up.
As we go down the road Patty bobs his head to the music. I find it interesting because it is a very different motion.
"Why are you staring at me?" Patty laughs without taking his yes off the road.
"Oh sorry! I was watching your head motion." I reply. I'm still kinda staring at him so I stop instantly and realize how creepy I must look.
"Yeah. It's kinda like a wave, or goose motion." he says.
I suddenly burst into laughter.
"A... A goose motion?" I ask between laughs.
"Yes! why do you always laugh at me?" he pouts.
"Okay- okay. I'm sorry." I says calming down.
