Before I Sleep

I find myself suddenly overwhelmed, overfilled
It's unbearable heat with a glass of lemonade, chilled,
And every song is about you now.
Something,
Anything reminds me of you somehow.

This is the best kind of insomnia
Rather than it caused by miscellanea
Because it's warm,
Something that makes me drift
Somewhere between dream and reality
(A gradient of consciousness
Without an abrupt shift
To full-fledged sleep,
But perhaps this state is a detriment to my vitality).

However, this rest is much better
Than the draining nightmares
And the half-asleep, trusting prayers
Since at least you'll keep me company
In lucid dreams,
full of words and poetry ideas
Bursting at the seams.

So as you sleep for another hour,
I'll finally retire
Into a hopeful sleep
With ideas to inspire.
