Daydreaming

Here I am,
A bit later than you would like,
Daydreaming.
Thinking I've dreamt of this exact moment,
Where I am sat right here,
Writing these very words,
But perhaps it is merely
Everyday life shrouded
By a dreamy haze.

And maybe daydreams
Will turn into everyday life
Shrouded by a dreamy haze,
Where I'll get caught up
With reading or painting or playing
At a desk or kitchen island
Until the clear and dark hours of 3 AM,
And you'll be half-asleep,
Head-filled with me repeating
That I'll get to bed soon
In a bed we share.
I keep telling you to actually sleep
And eventually you do.

I would still be absorbed
With whatever I'm doing.
Well,
Half-absorbed by it,
Half-enamoured by
How calm and lovely you are.

It's content,
Tranquil,
And I won't notice
The sunlight coming through,
And when I finally do,
I'll try to sneak into bed
Without waking you,
But will I succeed?

Maybe we'll find out.
