What was he going to say?
I waited, watching the three dots taunt me, fading in and out. Moving back and forth, nagging me.
"Jenna?" Marissa whispered in my doorway, rubbing her eyes. "Where were you?"
"I was at some friend's apartment," I reply, fixing my hair. "I'm really sorry I didn't text you or tell you I was here."
Marissa crossed her arms, looking at me in disappointment.
"You know the rules, Jenna." Marissa fumed, "It's your first time breaking the rules, and I'm praying it'll be the last."
"I'm sorry, Marissa. I really am."
"When you go out, text me. When you come home, tell me." Marissa yawned, uncrossing her arms. "And I didn't appreciate you hiding your friends from me this evening."
"I understand, Marissa." I crooned, "I won't do it again, it was unacceptable."
Marissa smiled at me and she closed the door, her footsteps echoing through the empty halls.
I flipped my phone over, unlocking it and reading the text.
Grayson: Jenna?
Jenna: Hey! Sorry, my mom asked where I was.
I felt pleased to call Marissa mom. I know she isn't, but she seems to be. I watched the phone intensely, my eyes losing vision as the screen became blurry. I sat on the floor, staring at my phone until I saw a facetime notification pop up.
Grayson Dolan wants to Facetime...
Grayson's face popped up onto the screen, bringing my face to beam. He smiled back.
"Hey." Grayson smiled, looking at me through the screen.
"Hey, Grayson. What did you need to tell me?"
Grayson runs his hands through his hair. I hear a door close. He lays down in his bed, fingers running through his hair yet again.
"You sure seem to be doing that nervous habit a lot, Grayson." I joked, gazing into his face through my phone.
Grayson nervously laughs, looking each way. I felt bad seeing him be nervous, I didn't want to out him under pressure.
"Grayson, you don't need to tell me." I sigh, realizing that he probably didn't want to say anything.
"I'm into you, Jenna." Grayson blurts out before I could say anything more.
