We walked hand in hand down the long pathway that surrounded the large, tropical resort. An ambiance of crickets rang through the midnight air and the wind rumbled, smothering the breezy scent through the air. My bare feet tickled each time they hit the black asphalt that became visible through the lamps that scattered the path. I looked up at the sky. It was deep blue, the moon was full and gray, fluffy clouds raced across the sky. Looking just like a deep blue ocean, the clouds were the vast whitecaps that topped the wave. The stars were dolphins jumping up and down, soaring through the galaxy.
I never wanted to leave, it was so beautiful here. The sunsets, the midnight air, the ocean waves, the people. It seemed surreal. Like a dream. I pinched myself, never wanting to wake up. I wanted to live here forever, away from everything. Morgan, punishment, school, social media. But some things are too good to be true. I know I won't be here for long. Marissa will probably send an S.W.A.T team after me.
"Jen?" Grayson's voice cracked, he hadn't spoken in awhile. We've walked in silence for the past 15 minutes, admiring the beauty.
I spotted for him in the dark, I could only see his bright eyes. So warm, bright and beautiful. Like a Christmas tree with gold lights wrapped around it, so superior and stunning. A gift to look at, heart skips a beat. "Yes?" I mumbled, viewing his eyes, the only thing I could see.
"You are beautiful." He smiles. It lights up in the moody garden. "Seriously, the most beautiful person ever."
My heart skips a beat. A smile creeps up on my face, as my cheeks rise to mountains. I twinkle and I blush. My nose crinkles and my eyebrows rise to the sky. I smile. He was my light at the end of the tunnel, the star on a tree, the beat to a song. He kept me going. He made things better for me.
Grayson stops on the path, as he looks up at the sky. He points to a shooting star. "Make a wish, Jenna."
I wish this moment would last forever.
Grayson grabs my chin, twisting my head toward his slowly. I gaze into his eyes, pursing my lips. His sun-kissed skin crinkles as he smiles. 7 billion smiles in the world and his is my favorite. He leans in, kissing me slowly and softly.
Perfect.
I never wanted anything to end. It all became surreal to me. A perfect boyfriend. A vacation with beautiful scenery. With a love that blossoms every day like a rose, the thorns become ignored. All the trouble I know I'm going to get into, it fades away as my only focus is the petals. The red as blood, cashmere petals fall at my feet. "Grayson?"
"Yes?" He pulls away.
"Tell me things that make you happy," I command, lingering my fingers through my hair. Happiness is a virtue. What makes people happy was so intriguing.
Grayson slowly picks up his pace, his jaw clenched as he thought. His earring dangled in the heavy wind and his flat hair flew up like a sunroof. Suddenly, he grinned. "Positivity. Seeing people compliment each other is awesome. Positive vibes are important." He glances down at me, raising an eyebrow. "Are we asking questions to each other?"
"I'd like that." I look forward, smiling.
"Okay, Jenna. Ask me some questions." He voice drops. "Ask me anything."
I turn to him, thousands of questions running through my mind. "Everything happens for a reason," Grayson nods, "Why do you think we met?"
He smiles, surprised from my question. I wasn't going to ask what his favorite color was. I wanted to know the most important things. "I think we met, because... Because I wasn't in a good state and I needed love to fix me." He looks down at me, as his golden sparkles fall away. My heart skips a beat as I see him unhappy for a moment. "You really did fix me, Jenna."
