Chapter 2

I got to the restaurant right on time, 6:30. It gives us enough time to eat, chat, and get back to school before the bell rings. I see Jessica sitting at our regular table and walk over. There was no need to wait, the "Please Seat Yourself" sign written in big red letters made sure of that.

"Keegan!" Jessica squealed, thrusting a wrapped box in my direction. Did she really have to do this here? Now the sound of wrapping paper is going to catch everyone's attention. But I smile anyways, taking the box and sitting in the seat across from her.

"Hmm.." I say, putting on an act to seem as if I were interested. "What's inside?" I put the box up to my ear and jiggle it. The box was very light and I couldn't hear anything inside. Now I was actually kind of interested. I hear Jessica giggle as I begin to unwrap it, catching all the elders's attention.

The box was plain cardboard but luckily, it was easy to open. I reach inside it, pulling out two slips of paper. "What the.." I ask, genuinely confused. I read them and my heart stops. "Oh my god..."

Jessica squeals again, kicking her feet excitedly under the table. "I know! Can you believe it? My daddy managed to get them because of his work." I held in my hand two tickets to the Super Bowl, something I've wanted to go to since I was young.

I reach over the table, past the biscuits and gravy she had already ordered for me, and gathered her into a hug. "Thank you." I whisper and she sighs happily. I pull back, still gawking at the two tickets.

"I knew you'd love it. And what better time to give them to you than right after you won the big game?" She chirped, shrugging her petite shoulders. I nod, my heart still not wanting to beat.

We finish up quickly because I felt the need to drop the tickets off at home first, not wanting to risk them being stolen. We get to school just barely on time. Despite my hatred for school, I still want good attendance.

I sigh, relieved to finally be home. I knew no one else was; they all worked until 6:00. I zombie walk to the kitchen, rummaging through the contents of the pantry. "Damn." I mutter, seeing nothing that looked the least bit nice tasting.

I lazily walk up to my room, throwing open the door with a groan. I walk to my bed, flopping onto it easily. Man, was I tired. I could easily pass out right now. And I would have if it weren't for the noise I heard downstairs.

I fling up, now every part of me on edge. No one was supposed to be home. I grab my baseball bat, of which I signed by highschooler at age five, which I thought was the coolest thing ever. I heard the noise again, almost as if it were a chair squeaking.

I sneak down the stairs, heading once again into the kitchen. Once in there, my grip on the bat tightens. "Who the fuck are you!?" I scream at the small looking blonde boy. He stood on a chair, reaching for a cereal box atop the fridge.

The boy had shaggy blonde hair and huge blue eyes. They looked down at me, startled. His body was very tiny and boyish. Yet, I could still tell he was around my age. The only question was.. why is he in my house?

The boy taps his two pointer fingers together. "I'm Ren." He smiles. I roll my eyes. Is he really that stupid? I obviously wasn't asking for his name.

"Congrats. Now what are you doing here?" I hold up the bat and he flinches. He pouts, looking at me with strangely familiar blue eyes. He points to a strawberry flavored cereal that looked to be out of his reach. I sigh, planting my face into my palm. "I'm not giving you my cereal." I state, wondering why this dumb ass is really here.

The boy hops down very carefully and walks over to me. That's when I notice the ears. They looked almost like cat ears.. My eyes widen as I see a tail swoosh behind him as he walks. "I'm glad you're home, Keegan!" He giggles. "I've missed you all day!"
