Chapter 3
I run over to him, quickly grabbing him by his baggy white shirt and drag him into the kitchen, which was stricktly off limits. I slam the glass doors shut and pull him over to the fridge, which was unable to be seen from the livingroom. "What are you doing?" I asked, my eyes wide.
Ren shrugs a small smile on his face. "I wanted to be a part of the party too!" He twiddles his fingers, looking innocent. Too innocent.
I sigh loudly, shaking my head. I point to his ears with one hand and grab his tail with the other. He flinches but doesn't pull away. "Yeah this? It won't work. You see, nekos aren't real so.." I say as if it were obvious. But Ren just looks at me confused.
"Of course they are!" He pouts. "I'm right here!" He crosses his arms like a child and stomps his foot. "I want to join the party just like everyone else!" He says in a whiny voice.
I sigh once again. "Fine. Stay. Here. Do not move!" I point a threatening finger at him and he nods, smiling. I leave the kitchen, going back upstairs into my room. I shuffle through the drawers in my closet, trying to find something to cover up his nekoness. I find an old beanie and a pair of basketball shorts. I rush back down the stairs and into the kitchen. To my relief, Ren was in the exact spot I left him.
"Here. Put these on." I hand him the shorts and she strips without hesitation. I squeak, covering my eyes quickly with the beanie. "W-Wait till I'm out!" I call and he giggles.
"I already have them on, silly!" He pokes me through the beanie and I take it away from my eyes, looking completely unamused. I glare at him as I put on the beanie, arranging it so that it didn't at all look like there were cat ears under there.
"Done. Now try not to be weird and definitely don't mention you're my cat!" I say, trying not to imagine what rumors would spread if that happened. He smiles, running towards the door. I immediately have to stop him though.
The idiot still had his tail out.
I pull him back by the shirt. He lets out a cough, his collar probably choking him slightly. That's what he gets for being stupid. "You're an idiot." I say, grabbing his tail. I pull back the back of his shorts, stuffing it in. He yelped, a blush crossing his face. "You have to hide your tail too." I say, opening the doors and emerging into the party.
It wasn't long before people began to form a circle around me.. and the new kid. Usually it was always the same people to attend my parties, maybe occasionally I'd invite someone else from our school. Or someone would crash it, but no one that looks very interesting. But no one had ever seen the kid following behind me proudly.
One of the other players on my team walked up, patting my back. "Awesome party as always, man!" He chuckled. Then, he noticed Ren. "Yo little man!" He thrusted out a fist and playfully punched Ren's shoulder, but the look on his face said it still hurt.
"Ouch.." I heard the neko mumble, rubbing his shoulder with his small hands. Paws? No, no. They're hands. But they used to be paws, right? The player, his name Manny, ignored Ren's look of slight pain and turned towards me.
"Who is this?" He asks. My heart rushes. I didn't think this through very well at all! Who was he? Who was he!?
"He.. he uh.. he's my cousin. He temporarily moved in. Yeah." I say, it sounding more like news to me than to him.
"Cool, man! Well welcome! My casa is your casa, little dude." He laughed and punched him again. Yeah, Manny wasn't the smartest. He was right on the line of having a high enough GPA to be on the team. He was tutored a lot because he was a vital player. If we lost him, we probably would lose the majority of our games.
