Chapter 14

I sat on the park bench, my head swirling with thoughs. Maybe I should just leave Keegan alone if his dad treats him like that all because of me. But Keegan is the only thing that matters to me. I sigh. Why is life so complicated?
It was getting pretty dark outside and I did not like it! I wanted Keegan but... but I can't let him get hurt. I stood up and walked away from the comforting bench. I put my hands in my pockets.
I eventually get to the sidewalk along the road. I just decide to walk. I walk along the sidewalk until it was almost too dark to see and, I was getting kinda tired. Up ahead, there was another bench. I decided to take a seat since my feet did hurt a little bit.
I didn't realize I had nodded off until someone was shaking me awake. I look up into the kind face of a girl. She looked about my age, her eyes were brown along with her short, choppy hair.
"Are you okay? Do you need a ride or something?" She asked. I smiled up at her. I stretched and I noticed her eyes drift to my ears. I quickly covered them, looking away.
"Uh... no. I-I'm fine." I stammered and tried scooting away but she grabbed my arm and dragged me towards her car. "Hey! I said no!" I exclaimed but she didn't seem to care.
"I'm not going to leave a little cutie like you all alone on a bench! Uh uh! Nope! Get it!" She demanded, laughing. I did as I was told and got into her volts wagon Beatle. We drove off and I snuck a look over at her. She looked back at me before looking to the road.
"So, what's your story?" She asked and I shrugged. I didn't really feel like telling her about everything that had happened... I'd probably freak her out because I'm gay. Stupid homophobic people!
"Nothing!" I snap. She laughs as we turn down a different road. Rows of houses that looked eerily the same appeared before us. "Do you live here?" I ask, looking at the tall three story houses, all with some bricks and fancy windows. Much better than Keegan's two story normal house!
"Uh yeah. This one right here." We turn into the driveway of a house that looked exactly like the others.
With my luck, I'd walk into the wrong one like, "Honey, I'm home!" And it be some crazy old man! I don't know how they would tell them apart.
We got out of the car and went for the front door. As we walked, the girl started talking again. "You can either sleep on the couch in the livingroom or in the guest bedroom. It doesn't matter to me. You just gotta leave before my parents get home in two days. I don't think they'd appreciate me bringing home a pet without permission." She giggled and softly pet my ears. I tried to hold back the purr that bubbled inside; this stranger can't know my weaknesses yet! "By the way, I'm Katie." She smiled and opened the door.
The front room was nicely decorated. On it's tan walls hung picture frames and paintings. I looked at one of the pictures. On it, there was a mom a dad and two children. One was a vaguely familiar looking boy and the other I assumed was Katie. The boy looked a lot like Katie so that could be why he looked familiar.
"That's my brother." Katie said, causing me to jump. I look over at her with a look that says 'uh DUH!' She laughed. "I meant twin brother. He doesn't talk to me much anymore though. We go to different schools and he's never home anyway so it's kind of hard to spend time with him." She sighed.
"If it makes you feel any better.." I began. "I don't even have a family. Keegan, my um.. friend, is the only person I have."
She gasped. "I'm so sorry! Here I am complaining that I don't see my brother when you have no one! Ugh!" She shook her head and walked up the carpeted stairs. I followed.
