Unrequited

UNREQUITED

I can't leave you with even a sliver of hope,

Because with that you'll have no way left to cope.

I can't fake false desires

Because it's surely a sin.

I can't,

Even if his heart won't give in.

Even if there's light in our future to turn to,

With every step I take,

Every move I do.

In the darkness I won't only be thinking of you.

I'll be thinking of the way he'd hide in the shadows'

And can't forget;

The way his eyes were deeper than meadows.

I can't live in falsehood

I can't be tied down,

To a heart that's happy

While my heart frowns.

Through the happy,

Through the sad,

I can't waste your time.

For a heart that isn't truly mine.

It's a fact that

Everything I have belongs to him.

He told me once,

And over again.

I can't lie,

For you have been treated wrong.

Because my heart makes a melody

And his words sang along.

It is shameful, what I have done.

I have tried to love you,

I knew I couldn't have won

Because I am his star and he is my sun.

You are kind, you are gentle, and play the part.

But I can't love you when he is king of my heart.

I have told you secrets

I would never tell.

Told you things;

That were locked in my hearts cells.

I loved, cared for him

In the spite of it,

He told me...

My love was unrequited.
