"Not a single word Eden! I can no longer stop what's coming but I can have a few moments of my own."
Eden showed up and sat on the sofa next to him.
"Did you manage to forgive me for not wanting to have a child with you?" She asked him.
"I hated you more than any human being can hate someone else the day you had that abortion. Then the night came and there was no more hate. I still loved you more than I hated you. You broke me. You never cared for anything else other than what you wanted. I guess you were right. You are not mothers' material. We are who we are and we learn to live with our daemons."
Eden took a second glass and poured herself some whiskey too.
"There is nothing left for me to say that would change anything but you have to know something."
"I don't want to know anything else tonight my luv. Don't try to lift that weight of your shoulders and place it on mine. It has been there all along. Cassandra always underestimates me. You can do better than that. I bet my life on it."
"What do you know?" Eden asked surprised.
"I didn't expect you to figure it out at that time but I believed that you would get it once you stopped running. I guess you never did."
Eden stood up, holding her glass. She didn't know what to do or tell. She looked at the door. Ed reached his hand to hers.
"You don't have to run, not tonight. I know. Come on. Lay down next to me. You did nothing wrong. I told you already. I still love you."
Eden came closer to Ed reluctantly. He hugged her waist.
"I am sorry I wasn't there when you needed me the most. I failed you more than you ever failed me. I can't take what happened back. Nobody knows if that baby was mine or not but it didn't matter to me."
