Steve was staring at me in shock and admiration.
I smirked at him. "What didn't know I was a bad ass?"
He glared at me, "language."
"Dork." I giggled.
"So out the window?" I asked staring at the large glass windows over looking Washington D.C.
"That's the idea." Steve says. I sighed staring at the window.
"It's a terrible idea."
"How do you think we should get to it? Besides it's right there." Steve points out.
"Fine."
Steve runs at the window and jumps. He surprisingly landed gracefully on the helicarrier. I simply transformed into an eagle and flew onto it landing beside Steve who already had placed the computer chip into its place.
"Well I didn't realize this would be this easy." I remark.
"This is only the first helicarrier." Steve says.
"Joy." I mutter sarcastically.
I trailed after Steve as we moved on to the next helicarier. He used a wire to swing himself across. I just transformed into an eagle again and flew across.
Steve was just standing in the middle of the helicarier. I was about to ask what he was doing but my question was answered on its own. The Winter Soldier or Bucky stood in front of the control panels staring the two of us down with a look that could literally kill.
"There's two ways we can do this Buck." Steve warns staring Bucky down just as intensely.
Bucky didn't answer he just stood there with his brooding look. "I'm not going to fight him, Steve, you shouldn't either." I hissed to Steve.
"That's exactly why Fury didn't want you coming. Besides D.C. depends on this." Steve snaps back.
Suddenly Bucky rushes at us. "Katie!" Steve yells tossing me the computer chip. However his toss was horrible and the chip started to plummet off the carrier.
I shrieked and lunged to catch it. And I did however I slipped and nearly fell to my death. I was able to catch the edge. I placed the chip between my teeth and climbed up. Bucky stood over me.
"Ah shiz." I complained.
"Steve!" I screeched tossing him the chip. It was just in time cause Bucky tackled me to the ground.
I thrashed and kicked underneath him. "Katie!" Steve yelled.
"Don't worry about me! Just do the mission!" I yell back. Bucky lifted one of his arms along with a pistol. He shot Steve in the leg. He gasped and fell to the floor.
"Steve!"
"I'm okay!"
Taking advantage of Bucky lifting one of his arms I flipped him off me and managed to pin him to the ground. He was nearly impossible to hold down. Like a little kid trying to hold down a skid dish elephant. He thrashed and kicked and even spat at me a few times.
"Bucky listen to me, HYDRA doesn't own you. Stop this right now and come home with us. Me and Steve will be more than happy to take you in." I pleaded.
He didn't respond except for attempting to kick me off him. "James, stop." I ordered sternly.
Bucky instead of answering threw me off him roughly. Before I could do anything he shot at Steve again.
"No! Stop!" I shrieked and jumped on his back.
"BUCKY PEOPLE WILL DIE!" I cried desperately, "we can't let this happen! Please don't make us fight you!"
Bucky roughly threw me to the ground again. I scurried and jumped right back up again. By that time Bucky was already quarreling with Steve. They were throwing brutal punch after brutal punch.
Imagine the most brutal and terrible fight you've ever seen. This was worse. It was friend against friend.
"Katie! Take the chip!" Steve screeched. He tossed it to me. And it flew right past me and clattered down a few levels of the carrier.
"Um, Steve?" I called nervously.
"What?" Steve snaps venomously barely deflecting a punch from Bucky.
I looked down at the chip innocently laying on a platform feet below.
"I uh- think I dropped the chip."
"You what?"
"Dropped the chip!"
"Get it back!"
"I don't know if I can."
Steve rolled his eyes. "Fine deal with Bucky."
"Roger that."
Steve was about to hop the railing to retrieve the chip when Bucky tackled them over the railing. They grappled and fought, Bucky trying desperately to kill.
"Katie, I'm going to try to toss you the chip!" Steve yells up to me.
"Alright!"
Steve reached for it and things went from bad to worse. The chip plummeted another level down the carrier.
Steve jumped down after it. Bucky quickly followed in pursuit. He tossed Steve's shield at him.
I jumped down after the two of them. Before Bucky could try and attack Steve again I grabbed him and pulled him back.
"JAMES, NO! " I shrieked pulling him back.
Bucky's attention was now drawn on me. He threw me off him and kicked and punched at me a few times. I only just dodged his attacks.
Eventually Bucky won for he kneed me in the gut impossibly hard and I keeled over falling to my knees. Bucky then moved on to go back to fighting Steve.
It was getting increasingly violent. Steve now had Bucky in a chokehold and was bending his flesh arm back.
"Drop it! Drop it!" Steve commands Bucky as if he were a dog.
"Steve go easy on him." I groaned.
"Easy? You do know he's trying to kill us right? And for the record I don't want to hurt him!" Steve snaps back.
"Sure don't look like it." I snap back. There was a sudden horrible sounding snap and Bucky let out a blood curling yell.
"Steve!" I scold.
"It's fine I didn't break his arm!"
Steve fell back on the floor still holding a struggling Bucky in a choke hold. Suddenly Bucky went limp. Steve rolled him off him and quickly retrieved the chip.
"Steve what did you do?" I cry rushing to Bucky's side.
"Don't worry he's just unconscious." Steve yells back starting to climb his way back up to the control panel.
I kneeled by Bucky and checked his pulse. He was alive at least. I heaved him onto my lap. I cradled Bucky in my arms stroking his head gently as I watched Steve climb back up the carrier.
Out of nowhere a sharp stinging pain erupted on my cheek and shoulder. I winced to see that Bucky had awakened and jumped up his knife in hand. When I brought my hand back from my cheek it was covered in blood.
Bucky was now aiming his pistol at Steve. I jumped up and grabbed his arm. "No, don't!"
I struggled to force him to lower his arm. Bucky resisted as if I was a mere mouse. I thought stupid HYDRA gave me the super soldier serum! I thought angrily.
A shot rang out through the carrier. I looked to see Bucky had shot Steve in the leg again.
"Katie keep him at bay!" Steve ordered.
"What do you think I'm trying to do?" I snarled back.
Bucky raised his gun to shoot again. I sighed. "Sorry Buck." I apologized before tackling him to the ground.
He punched me in the jaw in his struggle to get me off. I tore his gun out of his hand and tried to pin him down. He freed his metal arm from my grasp and face shoved me off him.
He moved inhumanly fast picking up his gun and firing Steve in the gut just before Steve finished the mission.
For a second I thought all was lost. Steve slumped against a wall breathing heavy. "Come on Stevie." I muttered under my breath.
As if he heard me he stood and placed the chip in place. Steve was a brick-head but he had heart.
"Send the fire!" I heard Steve yelled into his earpiece. "Just do it!" He yelled a moment after to whoever he was talking to.
A few missiles rattled the carrier. Things started to fall. Rubble started to rain down on us. A beam crashed down on Bucky.
"No!" I shrieked immediately going to try and lift it off him.
"Steve! Steve help!" I shrieked. I was making progress but not enough.
"Alright I'm coming."Steve says climbing back down.
It was shamefully easy to lift the beam off Bucky once Steve helped.
"Listen Buck, you know us." Steve carefully tries to tell Bucky. Bucky quickly recovered from the beam falling on him.
"No I don't!" He shrieks and went to hit Steve. I grabbed him by both arms pulling him back. This however did nothing for Bucky simply just kicked back at me forcing me off of him.
Then he went at Steve. They fought a few moments before Steve caught hold of him.
"You know us." Steve insists.
"NO I DONT!" Bucky shrieks throwing a sloppy punch.
"You've known us your whole life." Steve pleads.
"You're name is James Buchanan Barnes."
"SHUT UP!" Bucky boomed before punching Steve. They grappled a bit more before once again Steve stood in front of him.
"I'm not going to fight you," Steve says dropping his shield down a hole in the glass, "you're my friend and Katie is technically your wife."
Bucky tackled Steve to the ground.
"And you're my mission." He snarls repeatedly punching Steve in the face.
"Then finish it," Steve chokes out his face a swollen mess, "cause I'm with ya till the end of the line."
I wanted to throw Bucky off Steve to force him to stop punching him, but I found myself rooted to the spot where I stood. I was paralyzed.
As Steve said this Bucky froze as well. His expression softer and his arm raised in the air about to throw another brutal mark, though he seemed conflicted. His face one of a man with a heart that had been smashed into a million pieces.
A large crash sounds as the part of the carrier Steve laid on collapsed. I watched as my brother fell into the Potomac river surely to never be seen again.
Bucky caught himself by his metal arm. He hung there from the rafter just staring. I ran to the edge and screamed. Almost as loud as I did when Bucky fell from the train. Though I didn't hear myself. I collapsed to my knees. I didn't care if I died.
To me I already had. My brother was for sure gone. For sure I soon was falling into the river myself. The plunge into the Potomac was painful and quite warm and filthy due to the ash from destruction.
That's when I felt myself being lifted out of the water instead of sinking down. A strong but icy cold arm was wrapped around me. Looking around Bucky carried me in his metal arm while dragging Steve out of the river.
If I wasn't so beat up and tired I would've been much more enthusiastic. However I can't explain in words how wonderful it felt to be back in Bucky's arms. I couldn't be happier. Just as I thought I had my Bucky Bear back he gently set me down on a small beach next to Steve.
Then to my horror he gave us a small glance before starting to walk away. Ignoring all my pain and everything I shot up to my feet. Blood rushed to my head but I couldn't care less.
"Buck." I croaked at first, "Bucky!" I called louder so he would here me. He turned slowly.
Not thinking I flung myself at him. I held his face in my hands gently and smashed my lips onto his. I poured all my emotions into it. His lips were chapped and I could taste blood but I didn't care. It felt magical nonetheless.
Bucky hesitated but eventually wrapped his arms around me pushing me closer to him. We were both soaked to the bone and cold but touching him still sent sparks of warmth throughout my body.
He deepened the kiss as well. Then it all ended to soon. Bucky gently shoved me away.
"Do you know me?" I asked hesitantly wringing my hands.
"I- I'm not sure. I mean I know you but at the same time I don't. You're confusing to me. There's memories with you in HYDRA and other things." Bucky says quietly.
"Well it's okay. You can come home and I'll help you sort through your memory." I offered.
Bucky shook his head. "No I need my own time. I- don't know if I can trust you."
With that he began walking away again. "Bucky." I pleaded tears welling in my eyes and beginning to fall.
This time he didn't turn instead he just walked off into the woods leaving me cold, wet, and alone with an unconscious Steve.
