"You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way."
Song of Songs 4:7 NLT~Hours after Bastard~
🎊Carmen's POV🎊
My feet ache as I walk up the front steps. Unlocking the door, my bag slides from my shoulder to the floor. Turning on the light, the house illuminates brighter than the outside. My feet slip out of the confines of my work shoes, a sigh falling from my lips at the freedom. Although it is early in the morning, the house is awfully quiet. Jacob, whose actions have been the same for the past week, should be down in the basement. I should be able to the the jingling of metal as he punches the bag, but the sound isn't there.
I walk towards the basement door, suspicion clouding my mind. There is no sound coming from the bottom of the steps, no punching nor grunts. Nevertheless, I descend the stairs. The bag is unmoved, there is no evidence of human occupancy in at least an hour or two.
I jog back up the steps, worry beginning to cloud my mind. I know that he's of legal age and he's not a baby anymore, but I still worry. My legs take me to his room, which is vacant. Oh no. His car and motorcycle are still in the driveway. He wouldn't have gone far on his own. He's not in the backyard. Feeling extremely worried now, I take my phone out and called him.
I thought he would pick up by the first ring but it is me who hears the ring. I let out a curse as I stomp over to the couch. His phone lights up with a picture of me. I smile fondly at the screen. Anxiety seeps through me when I realize that Jacob is somewhere without his phone. Where would he go when he doesn't have it? I toss the phone on the couch as it dies. Turning around, my gaze catching something small. My purse is on the ground, not where I left it. I do have an issue with leaving them around, but I know that I did not leave this one here.
Letting out a shuddered breath, I unlock my phone and call Serena. My foot taps against the hardwood floor. Please pick up, please pick up.
"...Hello," I hear softly.
"Hi Serena, I'm sorry to call so early on the weekend but... is Jacob with you?"
"No. Why?"
I close my eyes tightly. "Nothing, just asking," I hear her make a confused noise as I end the call. Oh no. This time, I call Danny.
He doesn't know where Jacob is, neither does Nick, nor Camila. I feel like I'm going to throw up.
🌧Serena's POV 🌧
That's odd. A sly, worrisome feeling worms its way into my veins. If Carmen is asking where Jacob is, does that mean he's in danger. I hit myself in the head. Of course it does! He's missing! He wouldn't go anywhere without telling him mom, I suppose. My phone is still in my hand, so I decide to call Jacob. If he didn't pick up for his mom... maybe he'd pick up for me. The ringing goes through my ear two times before his voicemail takes over. I hang up and toss my face into my hands. Where is he?
Knocking on the door pulls me from my stupor. Glancing at the clock, the time is 8:12 am. I rub the circles underneath my eyes. No use in going to bed again. The door opens slowly, showing my mother's face.
She smiles sadly. "Hello, Serena. How are you?"
"I'm fine."
Her lips purse. "Well, I'm about to make arroz con leche. Do you want some?"
My stomach grumbles at the thought. "Uh, yes please."
She gives me a grin. "Okay. It'll be ready in fifteen minutes."
