"The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison."
James 3:6-8 NIVJacob's POV
Even when I think I can get the slightest bit of silence to focus on what I need to take home with me, another figure invades my personal space. Rolling my eyes, I turn to the perpetrator. Well, it's only Nick. That's fine, I guess.
"Heard from Danny he's got a little study date. I'm guessing that's the same for you?" he comments, leaning on the wall next to my locker.
"First off, it's not a date but yeah. I'm planning on asking Serena to start the project today." When I'm met with silence I look over and notice his smug ass look. "What's the face for? You look stupid."
His face immediately loses all emotion, ha. "It's just I've never seen you so invested in a project before. All the one's in the past that we didn't do together, you let the other person do all the work--bless their souls--while you wait until the last possible minute to add your two cents and your name at the top."
Taking a deep breath, I shut my locker and readjust my bag to smack him in the arm. "Well, I've seen the errors in my old ways, Danny gave me the idea, and I figured there's no time like the present to care about new things."
"New things meaning new girl?"
"New knowledge, prick." I turn away from him and begin walking to where I know Serena's locker is. Hopefully she's still here.
"Jacob!" he shouts from where he still stands.
"What?" I respond, barely taking the time to look back.
"You're full of shit!"
I laugh and that's all he gets for a response. By the time I reach Serena, I make my way towards her quietly from the back. Danny and Becca are still there, and he looks like a fool all shy in front of her as he asks her to start their project. What a loser. My eyes widen as I watch Becca skip up to him and as his smile gets even wider. Good god. I haven't seen him like this... like ever, maybe once but that was failed from the start. Once they're gone though, that's when I make my way behind Serena and get close, close enough to notice how good she smells. Anyways.
"How 'bout we start out project, yeah?" I mumble in her ear. She jumps in response.
"W-what?" Her head turns towards me and I get to watch her eyes widen at our lack of distance. It does not take her long to turn around and put a couple paces between us.
"I said let's start the project today." I can tell my words confuse her.
"Why?" she asks, crossing her arms at her chest. Let's ignore that, good.
"So we can get it over with." Yeah, that's a good reason.
"Really?"
"Yeah, now let's go." Before I can think too much about it, I grab her wrist and lead her out of the school and towards my bike.
Oh shit. If she has a problem with this, I'm kind of screwed. When we reach it, all she does is stop and stares at it, like doing that'll magically turn it into a car.
"What? You scared, princesa?" I challenge.
"Um... n-no." So convincing.
I raise an eyebrow. "Really?"
