The mornings at the girls' houses are very different. Sheila's is very sweet and quiet. Christine's....not so much.
"Sheila? It's time to wake up. Breakfast will be ready in a half hour." Mrs. Lysotu sweetly called out to her daughter.
"Okay, mom! I will be down in a few!"
Sheila gets up and ready and goes downstairs for breakfast. Sheila and her mom and dad talk a little then everyone is off to either work or school. See, very sweet and quiet. Christine wishes she could have a morning like that but they are all the same.
Christine's father began pounding on the door at 5:45 a.m.
"Christine! Wake up! You only have 5 and I mean 5 minutes to use the bathroom to get ready." He stated sternly.
"Okay! I will be out in a second!" Christine shouted back.
If there was a word to describe Christine's dad, 'jerk' would be an understatement. He was always a freak about money, so he tries to spend less of it as possible, on Christine at least. For her mom, it was another rule. Christine was only allowed to use water and power for 10 minutes. 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the afternoon. While her mother could have anything she wanted. He has always done that to her. He treated Christine like shit and her mom like the queen. Christine's parents never liked her, and never even wanted her. Her dad told her multiple times that she "was from a night in vegas gone wrong", and the "gone wrong" part resulted in her unwanted existence. She has wished for a new family, many times, but she is still stuck with the parents who care more about the paper in their wallets than her.
Christine walked out of her room and down the hallway to the bathroom. Her dad was waiting outside the bathroom door.
"You're down to 4 minutes and 42 seconds."
"Okay! I know!" Christine stated.
"Don't raise your voice at your father, young lady!" Her mother, Nicole, blurted out, emerging from the darkness of her bedroom.
"I'm not!" She yelled back from the bathroom, while in the shower.
"4 minutes, Chris!" Her father counted down.
"I know! And don't call me Chris! I am not a boy!"
"If you were, we would probably love you more." Her dad replied.
That struck a nerve in Christine. She had a single tear fall down her cheek. She turned off the water of the shower and dried off. She threw on her clean clothes and brushed her teeth.
"1 minute!"
"I will be out in a few seconds!"
Christine walked out of the bathroom, giving her parents a dirty look.
"I'm going to head off to school now."
"Good." Her parents stated sternly and slammed the door in her face.
"I swear they act like toddlers after not getting what they want." Christine told herself as she hopped on her bike and rode to Sheila's house.
When she arrived at Sheila's house, it was 6:30. Since they have known each other for such a long time, Sheila's house is basically Christine's second home. She parked her bike out the garage and went through the back door. She headed up to Sheila's room to wake her up.
"Yo sis, time to wake up." She whispered.
"No. I am having a dream about VlogFest!" She stated. VlogFest is a place they all dream about going. To sum it up, it's a convention fans can meet their favorite vloggers.
"But it's Friday!" Christine stated in a tempting voice.
"I'm up! Let's get these four classes done and watch those videos!" S exclaimed as she jumped out of bed and headed towards the bathroom.
"Great! You get ready while I..." She paused. "...eat all of the food in your house." Christine blurted out fast and ran out of the room.
"Wait what? Christine don't! My mom is making food!" Sheila cried from the bathroom, but couldn't stop her friend.
A few minutes later, S was done getting ready and began to head downstairs.
"Good morning, Sheila!" Her mother greeted as she entered the kitchen.
"Good morning! Where's Christine?" Sheila asked.
"Oh, I think you can figure that one out." Mrs. Lysotu stated as she pointed towards the pantry. Sheila ran to the pantry and opened the door. Christine was in there, and she has gone through a box and a half of cereal.
"Christine!"
"...whu?" She asked with her mouth full of cereal.
"Quit eating the cereal! You couldn't wait a few minutes for breakfast!"
Christine looked down at the empty book of cereal at her feet and then back up at her friend. She swallowed the cereal. "No." She put the box down and walked out of the pantry. "How about this to make it up to you, again, I will give you half of my food."
"You will give me all of your food!" Sheila laughed as the two sat down at the table.
"Awe! Come on, S! Can I at least have one piece of bacon?"
"Fine! But just one! I can't believe you are still hungry after eating for a family of twelve!"
"Girls! Stop yelling at each other and eat the dang food!" Mrs. Lysotu interrupted.
"Sorry!" Christine apologized.
"We weren't really arguing! It was just funny/angry banter between friends!" Sheila laughed.
"Well, stop the bants and eat!" Sheila's mom stated.
The girls laughed and pretty soon, Mrs. Lysotu couldn't help but laugh too. After the laughter died down, Sheila asked "Hey, mom? Have you heard from dad?"
"I haven't heard from him in two days. He did tell us that it would be very rare for him to have time to talk." Her mom replied. Mr. Lysotu job causes him to travel a bunch, so he is rarely home. They try to video chat as much as they could but either he isn't available or he has a bad connection.
"When is he going to be back?" Christine asked.
"Not until a few more months." Sheila responded with a sad expression
"If you want mine, you can have him, and take my mom too!" Christine laughed.
"No offense, Christine, but I am 100.1% not letting your parents in our house." Mrs. Lysotu blurted out.
"None taken. They really are mean people."
"Oh look at the time! We have got to get to school!" Sheila exclaimed as she grabbed her friend's hand and ran out the door. "Bye, mom!"
"Bye, girls! Tell Max and Brodey I said hi!" Mrs. Lysotu concluded as she saw the two girls grabbed their lunches, hopped on their bikes, and left.
A few minutes later, they arrived at school. They parked their bikes and walked into their school. Of course, when they walked in the building, their friend, Max was being held up against the lockers again, by the same bully, Alan Fred. But before the girls could help, their other friend Brody broke up the fight.
"Hey! What are you doing? Stop it right now!" Brody exclaimed, getting Alan's attention.
"Awe! Has your widdle fren come to the rescue again!"
"Let him go, or else..." Brody yelled out.
"Or else what?" Alan asked but a teacher came by at the right time.
"Mr. Fred! Put him down right now and come with me!" The teacher announced. Alan put Max down and walked with the teacher.
"Max! Are you okay?" Christine and Sheila stated in unison as they both ran up to him.
"Yeah, I'm okay." Max shakily uttered as he stood up.
"What bullshit excuse did he use now to pick on you?" Brody asked with his hands in fists
"My date with Riley." Max replied as he opened his locker.
The girls squealed in delight.
"Omg, I completely forgot about your date!" Sheila exclaimed.
"How'd it go?" Christine asked. The two girls were on the edge of their seats.
"It was awesome! We had a lot of fun! We went to the movies and then to that Italian place down the street!" Max stated. Clearly, Max talking about his date made him feel much better.
"I'm glad you were happy, bro." Brody stated. Then the bell rang showing they had five minutes to get to class.
"Shoot we're going to be late!" Christine exclaimed. "Let's meet her after school."
"Great! And I brought snacks today so we're good!" Brody responded.
"See you guys later!" Sheila stated.
"Bye!" Max concluded and the four were off to their classes.
Six hours have passed and the school day has ended. The four of them packed up their stuff and met at Max's locker.
"So, how was your classes today?" Christine asked.
"Same old stuff." Brody replied.
"But that's what you'll get at Ridgemore High. Nothing exciting ever happens here!" Max responded as he shut his locker.
"Nothing ever happens in Ridgemore, let alone the high school! They should call this town 'Ridgebore' instead of Ridgemore!" Sheila laughed.
"See! That's something funny you can put in the vlog!" Christine announced.
"Oh yeah! I forgot you two were working on that. How's it going so far?" Brody asked.
"Well, we got 'Hello! My name is Sheila!' but that's it." Sheila stated.
"We can come over later if you want us to help you with it." Max stated.
"Sure!" Sheila gleamed. "What about you, Christine? Can you come over too?"
"Well let's see here...I was planning on having some family bonding and..." Christine stated but the three cut her off before she could finish.
"What!?!" Brody shouted.
"Are you serious?" S asked.
"Why on earth would you do that?" Max stated. Obviously, they knew how bad Christine's parents were too.
"Guys! I was just messing with you three! If I actually tried to do that, mom wouldn't pay attention and dad will think I am testing him."
"All jokes aside, are you coming over Sheila's tonight or not?" Max asked.
"Of course!" Christine replied.
"Great!" Sheila exclaimed. "Now, are we going to watch Dylan now or not?"
"Absolutely! Let's go!" Max exclaimed. The four of them left and went to the one room in the school no one uses. The old janitor's closet. It hasn't been used for that purpose in a few years. So, the teens made it into their little after school 'hang space'. They each enter the room one by one so no one notices. Once they are all in, they set down their snacks on an upside down mop bucket and sat down on garbage bags full of old blankets and crumpled up newspapers. They took these old, discarded items and turned them into comfortable and unique furniture. The three sat down on their trash bag beanbags as Christine got out the laptop and set it up on another old bucket.
"You guys ready?" She asked.
"Yeah!" They all exclaimed in unison.
Christine pressed play and jump on her beanbag. Then the video began...
