Everything was a blur for the boys. They can barely remember going into the ambulance and arriving at the nearest hospital. A few hours later, after all the procedures, Max now wakes up in a hospital bed.
“Ugh…” Max regains conscious and looks around the room. To the right of his bed is a clipboard with all of his injuries listed on the paper. Next to each injury is written in blue ink, cause: unknown. Max looks to the left of his bed, finding Brody is a bed identical to his.
“Brody.” Max calls out. “Brody. You up?”
“Now I am.” Brody replies as he regains consciousness.
“Look. We made it. We are alive!” Max exclaimed.
“Just barely. You two are extremely lucky.” states a doctor who just walked in. “You two lost a lot of blood, but we were just able to save you two.”
“Who are you?” Max questions.
“I’m your doctor, Dr. Reid. Now, if you do not mind, I would like to ask a question.”
“Sure…” Max states hesitantly. He didn't know as to whether or not Dr. Reid would believe them if he told them what has happened. “Brody, should we tell him the truth?”
“Of course!”
“First. What in the world happened to you boys?” Dr. Reid asked.
“I will start. So my friend and I were just exploring down this path when all of a sudden, I saw something big and dark move out of the corner of my eye. Turns out, it was a bear. I know it’s hard to believe but it’s one hundred percent true. We ran from the bear and fell, which explains the scrapes and cuts. Max was running and spotted a bear trap and tried to jump over it, which did a good number on his foot. When he fell with the one foot in the bear trap, the bear bit off the portion of the other foot. I turned around to save max. I did and the bear thrashed his claws at me, giving me these deep cuts. We were bleeding out bad and we just made it to a bike path before we passed out. Then we woke up here a few minutes ago.” Brody stated and gestured to each wound when he mentioned it.
“So…” The doctor states as he finished writing down’s Brody’s story. “This was all from a bear?”
“And a bear trap!” Max ejects from his side of the room.
“Ok. Well I am glad you two are now safe and sound. I will let the park ranger know of this bear.” Dr. Ried concluded.
“He probably already knew because why would there be a bear trap in the middle of the woods?” Brody questioned.
“You’re probably right. But I will let him know just incase. Thank you for your time boys.”
“Uh...just a quick question, Dr. Ried.” Max asked.
“Yes?”
“When will we be able to go?”
“You two will have to spend the night. We will release you tomorrow afternoon.”
“Great! Thank you!” Max replies.
“My pleasure.” Dr. Reid concluded as he walked out of the room and shut the door.
But, the door was not shut for long. Less than a minute later, the door was swung open, revealing someone special to MAx, holding a teddy bear, food, and balloons.
“Baby! I came a soon as I heard!”
“Riley!” Max exclaimed.
Riley ran over to make and planted a kiss on his forehead.
“I was so worried! I thought you were going to die!” Riley announced.
“Us too.” Brody intervene into the conversation.
“Oh, hey Brody! I got you a burger.” Riley states as Riley grabs a burger out of the paper bag and hand is to Brody.
“Thanks man.”
“Anyways, what happened?”
“Bear.” Brody stated.
“You’re kidding, right? I mean Max would NEVER voluntarily go outside. I mean...it’s OUTSIDE! IT”S NATURE! Nature and I do not mix.” Riley shouts.
“You two are literally perfect for eachother.” Brody states.
“We know.” Max and Riley say in unison.
Then the three talked for a while. And By talk, it was mostly Max and Riley talking with Brody popping into the conversation every once in awhile.
Meanwhile, Dr. Reid was on the phone in the hallway.
“Boss, I have them here and they are fully awake. Should I put them to sleep and bring them back to you?”
“Depends...do they think I was the one who tried to kill them?” Sheila asked on the other line.
“No. They said it was a bear. To make sure they weren’t lying, I sent in their friend. They told their friend the same thing. They were attacked by a bear.”
“Perfect. Then just let them go. They are no use to me anymore.”
“Okay, Boss. See you in a few.” Dr. Red concluded and hung up the phone.
Dr. Reid proceeded to their room with the clipboard in hand.
“Boys? I had my calculations wrong. If you wish to leave today, you are more than welcome to. Your clothing, which has been washed, and other belonging are in a bag in the closet. You guys can get changed and I will be back in a minute with your pain medications. Max, you will need a wheelchair for awhile so I will bring you that as well.”
“Awesome! Thank you!”
Dr. Reid left to get their things.
“Great! Let’s go! I have my mom’s car so we can just drive back in that. We will get home late though so just spend the night at my house. I will drive you guys home in the morning.” Riley told Brody and Max.
“Thank you so much, Riley.”
Within twenty minutes, they were dressed with their things and heading to the parking lot with Riley. Riley helped to two in the car and were off.
