"I can't, I give up doc. I- I can't." The patient, Emily chanted as she struggled to push.

"Yes you can Emily, let's go I need one more big one." Words of encouragement usually kick starts a multiple series of pushes, but all I heard was a long beep from the heart monitor.

Everyone in the room became quiet, and I knew I couldn't panic. Quickly pulling off the gloves, I began chest compressions. This couldn't be happening to me again, not again. Pumping onto her chest, the monitor started beating at a steady rhythm again.

"Take her down to OR three, tell the techs to set up for a C-section please." I said to my nurses, I quickly walked out the room. Once I was in the clear I took my mask off, throwing it to the ground in frustration. I couldn't seem to get right with my craft, it angered me to the fullest because this is what I wanted to do with my life but it doesn't seem to be working out.

My pager went off indicating that the patient was ready, making my way down the hall to the elevator I saw Luke and Kaila sucking the life out of each other.

It made me miss Mila, but I also realized that she didn't take the time out to see me at work like Kaila did for Luke. I know she loves me and all, but she doesn't put much effort into showing it.

I couldn't think about that right now, I had two lives to save. I wouldn't stop until both mother and child were leaving the operating room alive and well.

I got home to a dark apartment, I put my stuff down on the couch and went to the kitchen. Opening the microwave, there was a plate with food.

"Hey babe." She hugged me from behind.

"Hey." I started the microwave and shrugged my shoulders to get her off of me.

I was still agitated that she didn't put effort into seeing me. "Did I do something wrong?"

I washed my hands  before taking my food out of the microwave and sitting down ready to eat. Saying a quick prayer I began eating, she opened the fridge and grabbed a Ginger Ale. Setting it down in front of me, she sat down. "Talk to me."

"Saw Kaila at the hospital visiting Luke." I picked at my food, thinking of what I was going to say was more important than me eating.

"Yea ok? She goes to see him all the time."

I gave it a minute, the silence ringing in my ears. Looking at her, her eyebrows were furrowed and he hand rested on her stomach.
