Fanfic 7: Cath's POV
3 months later
I've healed pretty well since the accident, but my morning sickness has gotten worse over the past couple of weeks. On normal days, I'm bent over the toilet, but some days, I get lucky and just feel a little nauseous. Today hasn't been one of my luckier days, and I've already thrown up twice. I just got out of the shower, and it's pretty early. Levi's probably still sleeping. At least I think he is. I might have woken him up when I ran to the bathroom, but he usually comes to check on me if he's up.
Just then, the door opens and he walks in.
"Morning sweetheart" he says, coming over to kiss me.
"Morning" I reply.
"So I've been thinking, and I'd like to take you on a picnic today" he says.
"Levi it's freezing outside!" I shout. Even though it's March, it's still really cold around here and I don't think a picnic would be very enjoyable in this weather.
"Aw come on Cath I have something really special planned. You'd be so mad if I told you what were doing and you chose to miss out on it" I know he wants me to agree, but I'm not going to give in that easily.
"What do you have planned?" I ask. "Maybe if you tell me I'll agree to this picnic of yours"
He seems to consider telling me for a minute, but then decides against it.
"I can't Cather. That's the whole point of a surprise. You aren't supposed to know"
"Sure Levi. I'll go on this surprise picnic with you. But the surprise better be worth it" I agree.
"Oh it will sweetheart" he says, a small smile spreading over his face. God I love that smile.

"You ready?" Levi asks.
"Yeah, let's go. Where are we headed?" I ask.
"Well I can't tell you that. It'll ruin the surprise" he responds. He's up to something. I can tell. I just don't know what it could be.
He drives for a while, before turning down a side road. It looks familiar, but I don't remember when I've seen it before. He drives for a few more minutes and it hits me. This is the back road to get to the old field behind the college.
"Levi, we're having a picnic at the college?" I ask.
"Yeah. I figured it'd be pretty special. I mean it's where we first met" he says. He reaches over and takes my hand in his.
"Was this the surprise?" I question. If it was, it's not very impressing.
"Part of it. But there's an even bigger one" he tells me. He seems really nervous, and I'm starting to get suspicious. What is he up to?
He drives as close as he can to the edge of the field and parks the car. We both grab all the stuff and go sit on the bleachers. We have chips and sandwiches to eat. Real romantic. After we eat, he suggests we go for a walk. I agree and we head over to the little path in the trees.
"So.... when am I going to get this big surprise?" I ask, curious.
"Oh don't you worry about that" he replies. We continue walking, and talking about random things. He starts to get really quiet after a few minutes.
"What's up?" I ask him.
"You've been really quiet today. Is there something you need to tell me?" He shakes his head.
"No, no it's um nothing" he responds, not meeting my eyes.
I know he's lying, but I decide not to push him. He'll tell me what's going on when he wants to.
We walk in silence for a few more minutes, and he stops in a clearing with a little bench.
"Sit down, this is the part where you get your surprise" he tells me. I do as I'm told, and sit on the bench. Then, he pulls a book out of his coat. "The outsiders" it says on the front.
"Levi, if you just wanted me to read to you, we could have stayed home" I say, clueless as to what's going on.
"That's not why we're here Cath" he replies, smiling.
He flips through the book, almost like he's looking for a certain page. When it looks like he's found the page he's looking for, he gets down on one knee in front of me. What the hell is he doing? He can't be proposing to me. He's holding a book for gods sake. He turns it on its side and opens it to a page. I feel tears in my eyes as I read what's written on the page.
"Will you marry me?"
Levi's POV
As nerves pump through my veins, I pull out the book and kneel down. I open it to the page I know I've written on and hold it open so Cath can read it. I look at her, as tears fill her eyes. I set the book down and pull out the simple, yet beautiful ring I have for her. I open up the box and look her in the eyes.
"Cather Avery, ever since the day we met, I've been in love with you. Whether you knew it, or not, it's true. And I've never stopped loving you. You've brought so much joy into my life and I can't picture myself with anybody else. Cather Avery, will you marry me?" By now, tears are streaming down her face. But I can tell they are tears of joy. She's smiling from ear to ear.
"Yes!" She exclaims. She jumps off the bench, and on top of me. I kiss her and hold her as tight as I can. If I could stay in this moment forever, I would.
Then, Cath looks down at her stomach.
"You hear that little guy?" She says, laughing and crying at the same time.
"Mommy and daddy are gonna get married!"
I put the ring on her finger, feeling a huge wave of relief wash over me.
"I love you so so so so so much Levi" she tells me.
"I love you too, sweetheart"
***
The whole way home, Cath has been admiring her ring.
"It's perfect!" She keeps saying.
"It had to be perfect for such a perfect girl" I tell her.
"I must say Levi, that was a pretty great surprise" she's says after driving for a few more minutes.
"So you're glad you agreed to my picnic?" I ask, in response.
"Yes" she says.
"If I would've known it would go like this, I would've agreed in a heartbeat"

Later that night, we head up to bed. I change into my pyjama pants and a white t-shirt. Cath wears one of my bigger shirts, which is huge on her. She is so beautiful. If I were to fall asleep right then, I'm certain the last thing to cross my mind would be her.
