Two Weeks Later.
Levi's POV
Today Cath and I are going to the hospital for the first ultrasound. Her dad is coming over to babysit Ruby while we're gone, but he doesn't know Cath is pregnant yet. He's going to stay for dinner afterwards, and my parents will be coming over then too. That's when we'll tell them all the big news.
There is a knock at the door, and it's Cath's dad. I let him in, while she is still getting ready, and tell him where all of Ruby's things are.
"So where are you guys going?" He asks me.
"Uhh..." I stutter. "To this Simon Snow book signing thing" I lie, hoping that I sound somewhat believable.
"Makes sense." he says. "Has to do with books" I laugh, partly because what he said was funny, and partly because of relief he didn't question me.
Cath comes down the hallway, ready to go.
"Have fun at the book signing!" Her dad calls, as we walk out the door. Cath looks at me with a confused look on her face, but then seems to understand.
"Thanks dad! We will!" she replies.
We both get in the truck, and I notice she looks nervous. I put my hand in hers and give it a squeeze, reassuring her that everything will be fine. We arrive at the hospital, and check in. In less than five minutes, the nurse calls us into the room.
"My name is Marlee, and I'll be doing all of your checkups." The nurse says. "And I'm assuming you know the drill, seeing as this isn't your first." Cath smiles, already laying down. I sit beside her, just like last time, and hold her hand. The nurse begins putting the jelly stuff on Cath's belly, and i can't help but notice she already has a noticeable bump. Maybe she's farther along than we thought.
"Alright, there's our little heartbeat." Nurse Marlee says. I look at the screen, even though it's hard to tell what I'm looking for.
"And there's a second one!" She says. My eyes widen at this, and Cath looks shocked.
"W-w-what?" Cath whispers.
"Can you repeat that?" I ask.
"Congrats! You two are going to have twins!" The nurse replies. "You may have noticed that the pregnancy test result came back faster than usual. When that happens, it's usually a sign of twins." I smile, and Cath does too.
"It would also explain why you have a noticeable bump at only 1 and a half months along"
I look at Cath, and even though we weren't expecting this, she looks happy.
"This is amazing." She says. "It must run in the family."
The whole ride home, Cath is ecstatic. I think keeping Ruby made her realize that she did want kids, but just didn't know it until then.
We don't tell Cath's dad the news as soon as we get home, because we want to tell my parents at the same time. They should be here in about a half an hour, so I immediately head to the kitchen to get dinner started.
Cath's POV
"How was the book signing?" My dad asks as soon as we walk in.
"Great! How was Ruby?" I ask in response.
"Well she was a bit fussy at first, but I popped in a movie and she was asleep in no time. She just woke up about 10 minutes ago actually, and I fed her some apple sauce."
I pick my baby up out of her bouncer, and kiss her cheek.
"We're you good for grandpa? I bet you were!" I say tickling her.
I then put her back in her seat, so I can help Levi make dinner. About 25 minutes later, his parents arrive. We're planning on telling them during dinner, so for now we just chat in the living room. It's pretty crowded, because we're only living in an apartment right now, and the realization that we need to move within the next 7 months really hits me.
Finally, dinner is ready, and everybody is served. I feel Levi's hand on my knee, and look at him. He nods his head, so I take it he is ready to share the big news.
"Um Levi and I have something we'd like to tell you guys." I say, already feeling a smile spread across my face. "Dad, we didn't go to a book signing earlier, that was a lie. We actually went to the hospital for an ultrasound." Levi's moms eyes go wide, and she puts her hands over her mouth, understanding what this means.
"And we're expecting!" Levi says. Our parents all congratulate, but I tell them there is more news. They stop talking, excited to here the rest.
"I'm having twins!" Levi's mom actually starts crying when I say this, and comes over to hug me.
"I'm so happy for you two" She whispers in my ear. "You really do deserve the best."
Then, my dad says "I'm assuming this runs in the family then. Have you told Wren yet?" I completely forgot to tell Wren! I should have invited her over too, but I'll ask her if she wants to go shopping tomorrow, and tell her then.
"No, but I'm planning on telling her tomorrow." I reply.
After everyone finishes dinner and heads home, I put Ruby to bed, seeing as it's getting pretty late. Then, I bring all the dishes into the kitchen. I start washing them when I feel Levi put his arms around me. He moves his hands around my stomach, telling the babies he loves them.
"That tickles" I say, and smile. He kisses my cheek, and I turn around so that I'm facing him. I kiss him properly, on the lips and he kisses back.
"You know what I think we should do tonight?" I say.
"No, but I have some guesses" Levi replies, smirking.
"NOT that. But, it does involve being in bed together." He helps me finish up the last of the dishes before replying.
"Whatever you want is fine with me, sweetheart." We get ready for bed, and I pull out an older Simon Snow book. It's one of his favorites, and he's always asking me to read it to him.
I start with the first chapter, and we read for hours into the night. We make it almost halfway through the book, when we both start getting tired.
"Simon Snow nights are my favorite nights" Levi says, as I turn off the lamp.
"I love you" I whisper, so quietly I don't even know if he heard it.
"I love you too" He responds.
