Cather and Levi

Suprise!

Cath's POV

We can finally head home from the hospital, and I'm really excited to finally see Ruby's nursery completed. I only know what colour the walls are (pink), and what the furniture looks like. Levi insisted on doing the rest, and I'm so excited to finally be able to see it.

When we walk in the front door, the only thing stopping me from sprinting up the stairs to Ruby's room, is the fact that I just had a baby.

"Hang on sweetheart" Levi tells me.

"I just have to put on one final touch"

I give him a pouty face, but agree.

"Hurry up though. You've already made me wait long enough" I say, joking.

He takes a plastic bag, with what looks like blocks of wood in it. I wonder what they could be for? While Levi goes into the nursery, I pick Ruby up from her carrier, and just hold her. I feel like if I'm not careful enough, she could break. I'm holding her in my arms, waiting for Levi to finish, when I hear the doorbell ring. I wonder who it is?

"I'll get it" I tell Levi. I walk downstairs, still holding Ruby, and answer the door. There on the porch stands my best friend Reagan.

"Surprise!" She shouts, smiling at me.

"I thought you couldn't make it?" I say. Reagan moved to New York after college, and I don't get to see her that often. I did ask her if she could come visit when the baby was born, but she was too caught up with her job.

"Well, I just managed to get the time off, and I thought I'd surprise you!" She answers, excited.

"But enough talk about me. Let's talk about you and Ruby! You look really great Cath. And congrats on the engagement! I'm really happy for you. Now let me hold my precious baby!" She is just delighted. When I hand over Ruby, I remember what I was going to call her about.

"Reagan, I was wondering if you wanted to be Ruby's Godmother. I mean, you're my best friend, and I knew I wanted it to be you the moment I found out I was having her" I tell her.

She looks at me with tears in her eyes, then looks down at Ruby.

"Of course I want to!" She replies. Just then, Levi calls down to me.

"Who's here Cath?"

"Reagan!" I reply.

"Oh! Ok give me one minute and you guys can see the nursery"

Reagan gives me a weird look.

"You haven't seen it yet?" She asks.

"No Levi wanted it to be a surprise. I picked out the furniture and paint, but he wanted to do the rest" I explain to her.

"I bet it'll be beautiful" she says.

"Ok come on up!" Levi shouts from upstairs. Me, Reagan, and Ruby go into the nursery. It is absolutely gorgeous. All of the walls are pink, except for one red accent wall. On two of the pink walls, there are red flowers. On one pink wall is Ruby's name in wooden letters, covered in rubies.

"Levi... This is amazing!" I tell him, going over to kiss him. Reagan is still holding Ruby, so I go over to her, and take her into my arms.

"This is your room!" I tell her. Her eyes travel the room.

"I think she likes it" Levi says, smiling.

"Me too" I say. She won't be sleeping in her just yet. She'll be sleeping in mine and Levi's room until she's old enough to be on her own. It'll be easier for us, because I'm sure she'll be getting up quite a bit these first few weeks.

"So Reagan, how long are you staying?" I ask.

"Just 3 days. I couldn't get much time off, but I got what I could" she replies.

"Well, we can't do much seeing as I just got out of the hospital, but we should make the best of our time" I tell her.

I walk her to the spare room, after leaving Ruby with Levi. She opens her suitcase, and pulls out a pink gift bag.

"This is for Ruby" she says.

"Reagan you know you didn't have to do that" I tell her.

"I know, but just think of it as a late baby shower gift, because I couldn't make it"

We go to Ruby's room where Levi's rocking Ruby. He's already such a great father. It's unbelievable.

"Hey Ruby, Auntie Reagan's got a gift for you" I say. Even though Reagan isn't really her aunt, I'm still going to refer to her as it, because she's such a close friend. Reagan smiles at that, and I can tell it means a lot to her.

I open the bag, and pull out an adorable onesie. It's pink and purple stripes that says "mommy's best friend loves me". She must've had it custom made, because I don't think they sell onesies that say that.

"This is awesome" I tell Reagan. The rest of the gift is cute baby clothes, hair clips, and toys.

"I know what you'll be wearing tomorrow" I tell Ruby.

For dinner, Levi grills up some chicken, and it's great to have a real meal. I've been eating hospital food for the past few days, so I eat every last bite of my food.

"This is really good Levi" I tell him. He laughs.

"Thank you"

After dinner, I go upstairs with Reagan, bringing Ruby with me. I want to talk with Reagan, because I haven't seen her in forever.

"So... Is there any special guy in your life right now?" I ask her. Her cheeks flush, and she smiles, so I know that there must be.

"Come on spill! Give me all the details!"

"Well, his name is Scott and we've been dating for 5 months" she says.

"That's great Reagan! 5 months? Wow it must've really been a while since we've seen each other. Why didn't you call and tell me earlier?" I ask.

Her smile turns serious.

"Well he's not really serious about us. I mean I wasn't really serious at first either, but now I really like him. Like really like him"

I get excited for her.

"Did you tell him yet? I mean do you love him?" I ask.

"I think so, but I don't know if I want to tell him yet. I know he likes me a lot too, but I want to make sure that he can actually imagine a future with me. I know I haven't been with him long, but I've never felt this way about anyone before" she replies.

"Well, maybe he's just nervous to tell you how he feels. Maybe you should bring it up first, before waiting for him to say something" I say. She looks at me and Ruby, and I can tell something is wrong.

"Hey what's wrong?" I ask.

"You know you can tell me anything"

She looks up at me.

"You're just so lucky Cath. I mean you're engaged to the man of your dreams, you've got a beautiful daughter, and a pretty awesome job I'd say"

I now realize why she's so sad. She's never had anything as close to as good as I have this.

"Don't worry Reagan. I'm sure Scott wants this relationship just as much as you do. He's probably just too scared to ruin things" I say. She comes over to hug me, but then realizes I'm holding Ruby.

"You know, I would hug you right now, but you're holding Ruby so.." I get up and hug her anyway, with Ruby between us.

"I miss having you around all the time" I tell her.

"I miss you too. But we don't have to let distance get between our friendship" she replies.

"You're right. We need to talk more though. And as soon as something happens with Scott, you better call me"

She nods, smiling, and we go downstairs to watch a movie.
