Why me?

The new house

We've spent half the day walking but it was worth it. The house was in a hilly type of area but it was well built and had a nice garden, along with a porch. It was bigger than our old 5 small roomed house. As we walked up to it I called dibs on the smallest room of the two kids room and because of that, Devin gave me a weird look. I didn't care though, I liked smaller rooms, I always have. We all walked inside "your two rooms are the two doors over there and the smaller one in on the left" he pointed to the door that led to my room and I Didn't stay around for the rest of the tour as I took my two bags from Devin and headed for my room. Once In there I shut the door and I could hear mom setting the stuff in the kitchen already. I sat my stuff down and looked around. My room had a dresser, a window, a bed side table, and a few chests and a safe box hidden under my bed. I put my things away and I laid down, closing my eyes and drifting off into a nap after a while.

I jolted awake after getting the same nightmare again. I sit up in bed as I hear a tapping on my window and see its my brother. He motions me to come outside, even though I don't want to, I get up and walk to my door. When I open it however I notice no ones in the main room but I shrug it off and head out side. I head around to the side of the house to see Devin standing there "hey nerd" I say teasingly "sure, come on, I wanna show you something" he walks away and I follow, "where are we going?" "wait and you'll see" is all he says and I just leave it at that. After 10 minutes, we reach a small pond, "what are we doing here?" "well...I was hoping you could swim down there and get the chest underwater. I would've gotten it but I cant swim..." he stands there awkwardly and points at the small chest in the water "and what's in it for me other than getting all wet?" "you can keep half of what's in the chest or all of it if I don't like it" he offers and I eventually take him up on it. I take off my boots and walk into the water. The water was cool on my body and I loved the feel of it as I dunked my head under. I look around for the chest, once I grab it, I pick it up and go to the surface. I walk onto the bank and plop the chest down. "damn it" Devin mutters "it locked" "and that's a problem how?" I ask him "even if I had a lock pick, I don't know how to use it.". I laugh and pull out a lock pick that I always carry on me if I ever need it and opened it with ease. "how did you learn to do that?" "well its easy but I've been sneaking into town and taking a few things and selling then to a guy in a shed, and that's all I'm gonna say" Devin looks at me with complete shock "you're lucky I like you or I'd tell ma and pa" I smile and open the chest to find 20 gold and a silver ring "you can have all of it" I said and shoved the box to him and he gladly takes it. "lets head back, its getting dark" he nods in agreement and we head back to the house.
