First Catch

-Chris's POV-
"And just swing your arm back like so and then just go for it" I smiled as she held the fishing rod.
"Into the water?"
"Yup go for it!"
She swung her arm and the hook landed into the water.
"Yay! Tah Dah!, see now your fishing!" I applauded.
"Oh my god dad I think I've caught something!"
"Pull it up pull it up!"
She pulled it up and to our disappointment she caught a boot.
"Aww better luck next time baby"
"I love it!"
"Huh?"
"It's a converse. It's my first catch with you dad" she smiled.
I smiled as I got emotional.
"I'll dry it, and keep it in my room, I'll put it on the shelf, if that's allowed"
"Of course it's allowed" I kissed her forehead.
"I love you daddy" she whispered in my ear,
"Come on darling where to next?!"
She skipped off the pier and pointed through the trees.
"To the bridge!"
"To the bridge!"I laughed.
Crystal grabbed my hand and we ran through the trees,
Across the bridge and she looked over the edge,
We stood silently watching the river beneath us.
"You know what I used to do when I was younger?"
"What?"
"Get a stick, throw it in the water, and time how long it takes to reach the other side"
"Ooh! I used to do that!"
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, when mommy and daddy used to fight I would run away to the river. I used leaves not sticks though"
"Did your mom and dad fight a lot?"
"Yeah, they hated each other but loved each other at the same time" she sighed looking out at the sunset,
I put my hand against her back.
"I never understood my mum and dad"
"Love is confusing as it is" I shrugged,
"That wasn't love" she shook her head,
"I can't imagine what you must have had to deal with Crystal"
" my father used to make me do things I didn't want to, and if I didn't do as he asked he would hit me" she said sadly.
I went tense, my head slowly turning towards her, tears in my eyes.
"W-what did he make you do Crystal?" I said softly, nothing but concern in my voice.
She rushed off the bridge.
I followed her as she stood at the end of the bridge and burst into tears.
"Don't- please I hate it when people see me cry" she cried.
I turned her around and knelt down to her,
Bringing her close to my chest,
"I love you my darling, your safe with me."
"I wanna forget, that's all I want" she sobbed.
I let tears fall down my own cheeks.
"Me and Emily love you so so much, you don't have to worry about them any more okay?"
"I'll try not to worry,"
"Good girl"
