Chapter 3: Aphrodite

*Nelly's P.O.V.*

Today has been going by pretty fast. I'm already in track. This time, Coach is having us race each other to see who will represent the team the best. He told me that if someone else beats me then I won't be his favorite anymore, but I mean, it can't be worse than being Greenberg.

I'm suppposed to be racing against someone named Miranda. I don't know who she is, but she doesn't stand a chance against a hybrid.

"Lockwood and whatever your name is, go to the start!" Coach yelled.

"My name is Miranda!"

"I don't care!"

I went to the starting place and got my legs ready. When Coach shouted for us to go, I ran like the wind. Miranda was eating my dust by the time I was at the finish line. I noticed Stiles and Scott were sitting on the bleachers. There must not be lacrosse practice today.

"You never fail to impress me, Lockwood," Coach said as he patted my shoulder proudly.

"Woo-hoo! Go, Nelly!" I heard someone yell from the bleachers. I looked to my right and saw Stiles standing up. My face got hot and I heard Elena laughing from all the way across the track.

"Shut up," I whispered. Elena heard me and I saw her stick out her tongue.

Next, Elena had to go up against a girl who I never noticed before. She had long, blonde hair and pale skin. I noticed that her eyes were glowing hazel. My attention was shifted when Scott ran up to me.

"You did great out there, Nelly! How do you run so fast?" He asked.

"I practice," I answered. "Who's that girl over there by Elena?"

"That's Aphrodite. She's a freshman this year. She's really close friends with Allison and Lydia. As a matter of fact, their other friend died last night, sadly. Her name was Lacie."

"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that."

Coach yelled at Elena and Aphrodite and told them to start running. Elena used a little bit of her super speed, but somehow Aphrodite pushed her out of the way and got to the finish line.

"That's cheating!" someone yelled from the bleachers.

"We're not doing an official track race so calm your horses, Greenberg!" Coach yelled. "I say that's a tie. Just go against other people. Lockwood and Gates, you're up!"

I walked to the start of the track and saw that Aphrodite was next to me. Someone yelled 'go' and I ran as fast as I could. When I got to the end, Aphrodite was a couple feet behind me.

"Lockwood, I'm impressed yet again," Coach told me.

"Thanks," I said.

I was about to go get some water when I felt something push me away. Next thing I know, I'm on the ground twenty feet from where I was. What just happened? I look around and see a group of people running toward me.

"Are you okay, Nelly?" Stiles asked.

"I think so. What just happened?"

"Aphrodite just pushed you."

"How did I get all the way over here, then?" I asked.

"Ummm..."

"Are you hiding something, Stiles?"

"Uh, no. I'm not hiding anything." He paused. "Are you hurt?"

"No. I feel fine."

I heard Scott talking to Aphrodite about how she can't just push people around. She said that she was just emotional about Lacie's death.

Elena snapped me back to reality when she clapped her hands in my face. I looked at her and Stiles. He had a look of concern and amazement on his face.

"Right after the race is done, we have to go. There's a family issue at home, Nelly," Elena told me.

"What family issue?"

"I'll tell you later. Right now, just focus on track."

"Gates, I'm switching you to lacrosse. You are being too rough for track," Coach said.

The races continued and I ended up being the one to represent the track team.
After that, Elena and I went to Alaric's house. He had something to tell us.

Alaric started explaining why we were all here. "As you all know, a girl was killed last night. I was doing some digging around and it was Kol Mikaelson who killed her. The Originals are back in town."
