Elias POV:
"Please! Have mercy on me!"
That voice. It sounded exactly like Jasmine, and I couldn't believe my ears. I had been thinking about what had happened last night, and I knew that I shouldn't have left, but I was glad I did, she needed to think things through, and not while I was around. I had been walking to her house to see how she was, but it seemed as if she had been thinking the same thing.
Her voice came from the direction of an alley, just to my left, and I wondered why she was out so early. Nobody else was around and it was the perfect time for kidnappers to do their dirty work. I instantly turned around the corner, just to find two boys, about two years older than Jasmine and I, cornering her at the back of the alley. She faced me, her eyes desperate and full of fear, and looking closely at one of the boys, I could see him fumbling with a gun.
I looked around the streets as quickly as possible for something heavy and found a metal rod. Jasmine didn't seem to notice me and neither did the boys, so I took that opportunity to sneak up on the treacherous duo, knocking the one holding the gun out by hitting him on the head, but not too much as to which the boy might get seriously injured.
The other boy, who had been previously been tussling with Jasmine, turned toward me with a fist raised but I was ready and knocked him out as well. I dropped the rod and ran to Jasmine, wrapping my arms tightly around her and pulling her close to me.
Jasmine POV:
I heard the sound of metal colliding with something, and I instinctively looked in the direction of the sound. A silhouette of a boy showed him holding a long metal rod, approaching the boy I had slapped. I shrank into the wall, scared that the silhouette would try to do something even worse to me, but relieved that the boys could no longer try something against me. The boy that hadn't been knocked out turned away from me, just to crumple to the floor with a loud crash and I hid my face, shutting my eyes tightly closed.
I could feel something snake around my waist, wrapping around me and pulling me to it until I felt the warmth of a body radiate to me. I cautiously opened my eyes, hoping that it wasn't some weird person. My eyes went wide as I came face to face with a sweaty and frightened Elias.
"I won't let them hurt you, I won't let you go."
The words soothed me, filling me with a joy I had never experienced before. I finally realized that he truly did care for me, and I wasn't going to mess anything up now. I wrapped my arms around him, responding,
"I know you won't."
