Elias POV:

"What do you mean she's coming today?" I raised my voice at my mother, happy and shocked beyond belief.

My cousin, Tara, was coming this very day! I was so excited! She and I were really close, but I wasn't prepared. The house was a mess, and I would have to clean everything up within the next two hours. Not to mention I was on complete companionship duty, and I still had to mend things with Jasmine.

I didn't think much of it then, just about how I would spend my time with Tara. I bolted around the house quickly tidying scattered pieces of puzzles and board games. After the basic 'toy cleanup', I headed downstairs to set up the guest room.

I haven't seen her in so long, ever since she moved cities. I scrambled up the stairs when the doorbell rang, almost about to burst with excitement and joy.

"Elias!" Tara cried out, tackling me in a bear hug, one that I willingly returned.

"Tara!"

We were both beaming when we separated, and instantly I offered to take her to the park. After she settled in first, of course. I followed her to her temporary bedroom, and sat on her bed, asking a whole stream of questions.

"Woah, woah, woah! Hold your horses! One question at a time, please?" She quickly said, allowing me to take a deep breath and calm down.

"What is it like living in Paris?" I asked, gazing intently on my cousin.

"How about I tell you all about it when we go to the park?"

I nodded my head at her response and patiently waited for her to finish. When we were at the park, we settled on a bench that overlooked the cliffside. The sun was already sinking below the horizon, casting a dim pink-orange light across the sky. I didn't care, I just wanted her to tell me everything that happened while she was away.

Jasmine POV:

I walked along the cliffside path, trying to figure out what I would say to Elias the next day. I didn't want to make a complete fool of myself, so I resorted to getting a breath of fresh air as I thought.

The sun was setting, and a gorgeous shade of pink-orange light was streaked across the sky, looking almost mesmerizing against the grayed clouds. I looked in the direction of the cliffs, immersing myself in golden light and savoring the warm feeling that overcame my body.

Almost as soon as I felt the heat, it disappeared, swamped in sadness. Looking towards the cliff, I saw Elias and another girl. They were chatting happily, though when Elias looked over his shoulder at my tear stained face, his smile dropped. His face showed utter despair, but I didn't care.

I backed away with a sob and turned heel, running as fast as I could in the other direction.
