I woke up to Joeys phone going off on the bedside table. I groaned and shoved a pillow over my head to block out the sound.
Joey:I'll get it, I guess
I heard shuffling and the ringing suddenly stop and I listen to joeys husky morning voice and he says a soft hello down the receiver. I smile, if that isn't the cutest thing ever then I don't know what is. I try drifting off to sleep again but I'm abruptly shook awake by a shocked looking Joey, immediately I sit up.
Shane: what? what's wrong?
Joey: the baby, the baby's coming early!
Shane:who? what? when?
Joey: who the hell do you think? Miley's giving birth! now! cc'mon Lisa's on her way to hospital with her now, we have to go meet them there.
Shane: fine, get me my pants.

I watch as Joey slowly limps inside the hospital, last nights adventure clearly showing as he scrunchs his face up as he tries to walk in a different position. if I hadn't already offered to carry him six times already I would do so now, but I'll only get the same response as before
"Shut up I can walk by myself you twat"
So now all I can do is laugh at his misfortune, although it was kinda my fault as I did stretch his butt hole last night.
We walk up to reception and ask where we can go to see Miley.
The reception asks for her last name and Joey speaks it clearly while the lady types away at the computer, clicking each time she pushes a button because of her incredibly long false nails which had been painted a salmon pink. her grey thinning hair is pulled into a loose bun on top of he head and I look at the name tag pinned slightly offside on her cardigan. "Penny" it says and I watch her face as she frowns.
Penny: Ah yes she came in a few hours earlier in labour. I'm afraid I can't tell you the news but if you wish to talk to the doctor he's in room 18b on floor four with the other lady that came in.
I glance at Joey who has an expression of worry on his face that matches my own.
Shane: okay thank you, we'll be right there.
Joey and I rush off to the nearest elevator (well as fast as Joey can go with his limp) and frantically push the button for level four, we wait in agony as the lift music plays quietly in the background.
We make our way to level four and rush out to zig zag through all the corridors to room 18b, at last we find it and knock quietly on the door. we have a small red headed nurse who seems to be heavily pregnant herself come out and she shyly lets us inside before leaving the room herself.
We look to see a small white room with a tiny widow looking out to the busy city and a faded blue floor with a few old looking comfy chairs placed around the room. Lisa immediately stands from the chair closest to the window and Lacey follows behind sucking her thumb.
Lisa: Shane, Joey, I'm so sorry. the doctors did all they could but Miley wasn't strong enough. she's in a better place now...
Joey:What... what do you mean?
Lisa: Miley gave birth prematurely, Joey. With her being sick and all it just wasn't enough for her body to handle.
Shane: Where's the baby now? is it okay?
Lisa: yes the babies fine, she had a healthy baby girl, a little under weight and shes using a feeding tube and a breathing tube but other than that shes going to be alright. a few weeks more and she'd be the weight she needed to be and we would probably be able to take her home on the day but we might have to wait a while or so.
Joey had limped over to a chair in the corner and was silently crying, I walked towards him and just held him while he cried.
Joey:can we see her?
Lisa: At the moment no all the doctors are putting her in a special room and watching her for signs of improvement or the opposite...
Joey: no I mean Miley.
Lisa: oh. no that's family only I'm sorry.
Shane: What about Lacey, does she knows what's going on?
Lisa: yeah i let the doctor explain it to her in the best was possible about half an hour ago.
Shane: are you okay my baby girl?
Lacey nodded and I motioned over for her to give me a hug.

Shane: it's okay, everything will be okay.
