All was right in the world, I had my stereo blaring music, I hadn't been disturbed all morning, and my black nail polish painted my nails perfectly. Where was I? Oh yes, all was right in the world, until...
My cousin came barging into the room with a frantic expression on her face, her arms flailing in the air. Must she always ruin the mood? Her lips were moving, but thanks to my loud music, I couldn't hear a thing she was saying. Chuckling, I went back to painting my nails.
Then the music abruptly stopped. Frowning, I lifted my head to meet her terrified eyes. " Katherine, I need to talk to you. It's important." She said.
Grumbling to myself, I rubbed my face and glared at her through my fingers. " Don't you have a mother and two brothers you could take this to instead?"
" Oh my god, you're not going to believe this," she said, flopping onto my bed. Get. Off. She may be a Princess, but the girl was far from a mind reader. Unlucky me. Then again.. I had quite a lot of thoughts that would get me into a greater deal of trouble than I already got into on a regular basis.
" What is it this time?" I asked, capping the nail polish.
" Joselynn won't let you keep your nails that color," she said pointing at them. " Why do you even bother when you know she'll make you change it?"
Grinning, I began to blow on the wet paint to dry them faster.
" One day I pray you understand."She gave me a funny look, then laid on her stomach and stared at my blankets with a very melodramatic expression. Great, did my mother do something?
" What did my mother do?" I finally asked.
Her eyes softened for a moment as she looked up at me. " Joselynn didn't do anything. It's my mother."
Taking a closer look at my dearest cousin I noticed her honey blond hair was a bird's nest and her sky blue eyes were red and puffy. This was not a normal image for Felicity, she was always sporting perfection when it came to her looks.
Instead of brushing her aside like I usually would, I gave her my undivided attention. Or, at least as much as my wandering brain could manage. " Okay Felicity, I'm listening."
Her puffy eyes filled with tears, quickly she brushed them away with the back of her hand and sniffed. I'd never known Felicity's mother to be very angry at her, naturally I was the one my mother and Pamula were always scolding. The sisters had it out for me since the day I was born.
" She," sniff. " She did something."
" Obviously," I couldn't help my snarky reply. Felicity knew since we were toddlers that I was an insensitive person, so really it's her own fault for always coming to me with her problems. She should know better.
" You know how my mother pulled Joselynn aside one day, and you followed because you wanted to ease drop?" She asked.
" Which time?" I asked, lifting an eyebrow.
" I followed you to try and stop you, but I ended up hearing their conversation as well," she said, her fingers fumbling over themselves. " She told Joselynn that she made a deal with a demon."
My eyes lit up with recognition. Of course I remembered that! How could you forget a juicy secret like that? " Yeah, I remember. But no, I never figured out what the deal was."
Before Pamula could tell my mother more, Felicity had made a ruckus, accidently tripping over a banister. We had been caught and though I vowed to figure out what they'd been talking about, I never did.
" I know what she did.." She said in the quietest voice ever. Oh. My. God.
" You do?!" I all but shrieked. She flinched at my tone of voice, remaining still as a statue. Meanwhile I started bouncing on the bed, clapping at my cousin proudly. My cousin, the goody-two-shoes princess stuck her nose in someone else's business? This will be marked down in history.
" Tell me, tell me, tell me!"
