After drilling Bennett and I about following the rules, my mother and Benjamin agreed they'd discuss our punishment after breakfast. Benjamin didn't seem angry, if anything he was enjoying the whole thing. His attitude would have concerned me, except Bennett didn't look worried in slightest, if anything he looked indifferent about everything.

" So you tried to outrun the guards?" Benjamin asked with a mischievous look in his eyes.

Bennett glared at him, but it didnt deter Benjamin in the slightest.

" Yes."

" You ran, which means you didn't want to get caught." Benjamin said, his grin widening.

" Yes."

" Why didn't you just leave Katherine behind?" He asked, lifting an eyebrow for added affect. " You're fast enough to outrun those guards, and then some."

That's right, I'd seen how fast Bennett could move, he could have easily gotten away from the guard's without being seen. He didn't though, he told me to run, he didn't ditch me.

Lifting my head from my folded arms on the table, I met Bennett's eyes, but only for a second before he looked away.

Benjamin's expression turned smug when I faced him. " Bennett has never been one for exploring. Or people. He prefers minimal contact."

That didn't exactly make sense. Why did he want to go to those specific places, places he'd never been before? If he didn't like new places, why would he want a tour? Not only that, why did it have to start so early in the morning when everyone else was fast asleep. I had a feeling Bennett had some kind of agenda when he came up with this plan, but I had no clue what that plan could be in my sleepy state.

" I do believe our dear Katherine is rubbing off on you, Bennett." Benjamin said happily.

Pamula told Bennett and I to go wait in our rooms while they discussed our punnishment. Seeing as I was already grounded for what I did to Luca, I didn't see myself getting much free time in the near future. Not only that, but I still had to break into Benjamin's room to find the contract. With the way things were going, I was looking at a lifetime of chores.

We didn't have to wait long before Dallas came to inform us we'd be doing a lot of dusting these next couple of days, which meant the chores only lasted until Bennett and his father left.

" You'll be starting in the Library." Dallas said, turning around to lead us there. The few times he looked at me were only fleeting glances, I was beginning to think things would never go back to normal.

Feeling defeated, I slouched my shoulders and stared at the floor, silently following Dallas alongside Bennett. The Library was on the other side of the palace, so it was a very long walk with an uncomfortable silence hanging in the air. Half way there I couldn't take it anymore. I needed him to look me in the eyes, to know it was real or at the very least I needed to know I didn't imagine the whole thing.

" So that's it?" I asked. " You can't even look at me any more?"

Dallas glanced over his shoulder, meeting my eyes for only a second before he shuffled uncomfortably and picked up the pace. " I don't know what you're talking about, Katherine."

Bennett glanced between us, remaining silent but observive. It probably wasn't the best time to confront Dallas about the subject, I should wait until we're alone. When would that be though? Dallas was obviously doing everything in his power to avoid me without losing his job in the process.
