Alone.
Alone.
Always.
The words echoed in my head, drowning out the sound of my pounding heart beat, of the adrenaline and the thrill. It was all just a distant dream.
" What's going on?!"
Bennett looked between us, waiting for an answer that no one gave. We just stood there, breaths labored, hearts pumping.
" Well, seeing as my services are no longer required, I'll be on my way." Benjamin said from the doorway of the classroom.
Bennett raised a hand to stop him, but it was too late. Benjamin vannished in the next second, leaving the three of us alone. I didn't blame him, if I could run off that easily, I would have done the same. Besides, it was better if Bennett didn't figure out what we were doing. What I was planning.
He turned back around to face us, eyes fierce. " What's. Going. On?"
" Nothing." Luca said, his voice quiet.
Bennett's hands curled into fists at his sides, his body tensing. Slowly, he approached us.
Luca shrank under his intense glare, eyes trained on the floor. " It was nothing."
" Katherine?" Bennett looked to me. " What is this?"
I squared my shoulders, meeting his gaze head on. " Like he said. It was nothing."
" I don't believe you."
" What difference does it make?" Luca spat out. " It's over."
Bennett grabbed Luca by the elbow when he moved to leave, forcing him to stay in place. Luca tried to hide his fear, tried to remain calm, but he was barely keeping it together.
" Don't make me force an answer out of you." Bennett warned.
" Enough," I said placing my hand on the arm Bennett was holding Luca captive with. " Unless you want to start something that you won't be able to come back from."
There was a long moment when he just stared at Luca. He released his arm, shoving him ruffly towards the door. " Leave, now."
Luca sneered, but left all the same. Once we were alone, Bennett grabbed me by the shoulder and pushed me into the wall. I grunted upon impact, giving him an icy look. black and valkyrie blue started shooting out from his pupil, expanding through the brown. I froze, waiting for him to lose control of his powers, like he usually did when that happened.
" What were you trying to do, Katherine?" He asked, his voice strained. " Were you trying to provoke him? Why? What could you possibly-"
He groaned, taking his hand back to dig his palms into his eyes. He took a step back, shaking his head. " Picking a fight with him.. Is this because of Dallas? Because he left?"
When he looked at me again, the brown of his eyes was being swallowed, until there was barely none left.
" I heard shouting.." Felicity said hessitantly. She stood in the doorway to the classroom, where Benjamin had observed. She looked between us with unease, sensing the tension in the air. " Is everything alright?"
Bennett raked his hands through his hair, taking three more steps backward. " We'll talk about this later, Katherine. I have to go."
I blinked, and he was gone.
Felicity stared after him, biting nervously on her lower lip. " What was that all about?"
" Nothing."
