Cheran's POV
It must be an hour since I slept. I woke up to her kissing my face and whispering "Maama, please wake up."
"Ennachu Kannu? (What happened Kannu?)"
"I think we have guests. We should go and meet them."
Only then I heard few voices from the hall. "It must be Anni's parents. They were out of station yesterday. So they must have come today to meet us."
With that I got up and she too got up. I went to the mirror to comb my hair and she broke down in laughter. Only after picking up the comb and looking at the mirror I realized why she was laughing. To manage my face I said, "I didn't come here to comb my hair, I came here to comb your hair. See you have got a terrible bed head."
She was still laughing when I tried to run the comb in her hair. She got the comb from me and laughed. "Maama, good attempt."
She swiftly combed her hair and wore a small hair clip on top of her head arresting few strands of hair with it. I adjusted my Veshti and she adjusted her saree. But every now and then she broke in laughter by looking at me. I hugged her and bit her lip. "Shhhhhhh. No more laughing."
She smiled and nodded her head. We then left to meet Anni's parents. Anni's father is pretty close to my Appa. But her mother hates our family. After the formal introductions, she went to our garden at the back of our house in the pretext of attending a phone call. Ennisai went there to serve her a cup of coffee. Since she didn't return after few minutes as well, I went to the garden. Aunty was asking her, "What did you find in this guy that you fell in love with him?"
"He is an awesome person Periamma (Mother's elder sister - co sister's mother is Periamma). But not everybody can understand him."
That Athai looked at her as if she was speaking Greek or Latin. Ennisai looked towards me and asked, "Maama, when did you come? Did you finish your coffee?"
"Just now Kannu. I had my coffee. How about you?" Normally, I am against PDA, but if it can annoy that Athai, I am all for it!!!!!!!! Because I once heard her speaking that a guy like me should renounce material life and should start following ascetic life because I can never get a good woman as a wife. I gave a side hug to Ennisai and was happy to see that Athai trying to look elsewhere.
Ennisai understood my reason for sudden PDA, winked at me, kept her hand in the small of my back and said, "I was about to leave for the kitchen but Periamma was asking me few questions Maama."
"Why are you wasting time Kannu? Go and have coffee first."
"Charinga Maama (Okay Maama)."
She then kissed my cheeks and spoke to me in a supposed to be whisper tone, "Your cheeks are so soft to kiss Maama."
I laughed and took her inside, knowing that Athai must be pissed off now.
When she settled down to drink her cup of coffee, I asked her, "Do you like this coffee Kannu?" It was Filter Coffee. In Chennai, we buy Instant Coffee powder, but my Amma loves only Filter Coffee and she buys the coffee powder once in two weeks from a nearby seller. My intention to ask her that question was if she likes this coffee, we can buy Filter Coffee powder for our home as well.
"I love the flavor of filter coffee mixed with Vanilla Ice cream. That is the best flavor Maama."
I rolled my eyes at her because my Appa and Maama had heard it and they were giving a lost look wondering what type of coffee it must be. Apparently she had referred to my kiss. When I tilted my head sideways to tell her that they were entering the hall from the balcony, within our hearing distance, she left the hall mouthing 'Sorry Maama' to me.
