Chapter 8.
“well that went...well” I looked over at him and wacked him over the head with my now wet tee shirt, he faked pain and I frowned at him before pulling my top over my bikini.
“it went terrible” I replied, he began laughing and I regretted not having my shirt to hit him with anymore, my fist would have to do.
“ow” he said after I punched him in the stomach “will you stop with the hitting, it might actually start to hurt eventually” he smirked and I went to punch him again, before my fist collided with his stomach again he caught my wrist in his hands
“not fair” I said still caught in his iron grip, his smirk got bigger if possible and he finally released me
“no sulking now Summer or I won’t get you ice cream”
“shut up! And do something useful with your time” I replied pointing to the boards, he looked up at me confused “go surf, I would actually like to see someone surfing instead of just constantly falling off a board.” He smiled like a 5 year old getting a new toy and grabbed a board whilst running off towards the water. Finally peace I thought as I lay down on my back and closed my eyes, enjoying the warmth of the sun. All too soon a shadow formed over me, I reluctantly opened my eyes to see Chase frowning at me
“what?” I asked closing my eyes once more
“you have to watch, so you know more for your next lesson” with that he winked and ran off again, I sat up with a sigh and watched as he picked up his board. I had to admit, he looked good in the sun, but that was something he must never know for fear his head might actually get bigger and explode. I looked around and saw quite a few girls staring at him and following his every move. It was strange to think I would be going to school with them after Summer. At least I had Lily and even though Chase was in the grade above, he would still be there.
I came out of my trance as I realised he was now close to standing on the board, I looked on and found myself memorised, it wasn’t that I didn’t like surfing, I just preferred to watch it then do it. Sport wasn’t exactly the thing I was good at. In one go Chase was stood on the board and already catching the waves, how was that even possible, I watched with amazement as he didn’t even stumble once and I must admit he looked good doing it, other people surfing would fall after a while yet Chase stayed on the whole time. I laughed at myself as I realise how terrible I must of been earlier, I had no idea he was so good!
“what do you think” he asked when he had come back and sat next to me on the sand, I looked at him and we both had huge smiles on our faces
“I can’t believe I’m actually saying this but you’re amazing!” he laughed and looked down at me
“I did tell you I was the best, 3 years running in the senior competition” my eyes widened and I smiled even more “I want to become pro when I’m old enough, it’s the only thing I actually really love” I sighed, things you love don’t always stick around though.
“Chase?”
“yeah?” he answered looking over at me
“what’s wrong with you and your dad?” I saw his jaw tighten and I quickly tried to get back to my point before he got angry again “its just I know I don’t know what’s going on but you should really sort it out, I mean life’s too short, if you get my point” if I was in an argument with my dad when he died it would of made trying to get over it so much harder. Chase must of caught on to my thoughts as he put his arm around me and pulled me in closer
“It’s not that easy Summer, he doesn’t get it” he replied looking away
“get what?” tell me” I said nudging him ,light-heartedly
