Ollie Garland One Shot (Adriana)

I had woken up early to get on the earliest train from Basildon to London. Even though I only lived forty minutes away I still haven’t taken the time to walk around and get to know the busy city. My closest friends couldn’t come with me, so, I had to face London all by myself. Honestly, I was a bit scared to roam it and get lost and it was a bit embarrassing when I had to go to a tourist store and buy a city map, but I couldn’t be late to my concert.

I quickly paid for the map and headed to a nearby coffee shop that was across the street. The wind blew my hair everywhere and the loud crowd bumped into me. I was totally not prepared for this.

Once inside, I took a bit to inhale the comfort of the place and find a great spot to sit down. A few moments had passed and I was beginning to get a feel of the place when I felt a small tap on my shoulder.

“Hello, um, I was wondering if I could accompany you?” a soft male voice said behind me. I really wanted to shoo him away, but I knew that it wouldn’t be nice. So, I took another second to think it over and maybe he could help me understand the city map more.

“Uh, sure, take a seat.” I gestured with my hand for the empty seat across from me. Not once had I turned around to see the stranger which I was inviting to be with me. Not once did I think about the familiarity of his voice.

So, when Ollie said, “Thank you.” And took a seat I almost died of embarrassment. By now he probably thought I was a snobby girl that didn’t acknowledge who he was. I honestly didn’t even know what to say to him; I was so caught up in trying to process the moment.

“So, what do you have there?” He asked, but already was taking a look at the map that I had out on the table. “Oh, London, wait, you’re not from here?” there was clear confusion in his expression, especially since I do have that British accent.

“I haven’t really got a chance to explore the city.” I tried to explain myself.

“Here let me help you.” He began pointing at the different parts of the city that according to him I had to see. He pointed to The London Eye and said that they had the best view of London and river Thames. It was very difficult to not get distracted by his looks when he tried to explain where everything was. He had his signature snap-back on and a very nice red t-shirt. There wasn’t a moment that I couldn’t stop staring at him.

“So, that is basically all of London.” He finished.

“Oh! Okay, thanks.” I acted like I understood exactly what he said, but I didn’t recall what he had said for the past five minutes.

“You’re welcome. Well, I have to get going I have to meet my friends somewhere.” He was already getting up and the nerves started to grow inside of me again.

“I’m going to your concert.” The words spilled out of my mouth. I quickly looked down and tried to avoid looking at him. Goodness this couldn’t be any more embarrassing.

“Really? That’s great. I hope you enjoy it and I’ll see you there then.”

After a couple of seconds I finally got the courage to look up and smile at him, “Yeah, I’ll see you there, maybe.” I tried my best for my voice not to quiver. Who knows if I was really going to see him there? Maybe I would get there a little too late and he wouldn’t distinguish me in the middle of a multitude.

“You know what...” he continued. “How about we walk there together?” I swear I couldn’t have smiled any brighter at that very moment. After all, maybe the chances of seeing him were getting bigger.

“That would be great!” I managed to say without the huge excitement within me to spill out.

“Come on then.” he bent down and started collecting the map and folding it back to its original state. I smoothed out my outfit and grabbed my bag.

The walk there was memorable. He started to crack jokes and tell me the funniest pranks he would do to the other boys. I couldn’t have been any happier at that moment of my life. There wasn’t a single moment that he didn’t fill in the awkward silences. Along the way we got some ice cream and he started to point out places where I should diffidently go. If I could only go with him. For a split second the smile on my face disappeared, for a second I thought about the time I wouldn’t be here reliving this moment. This is a one in a life time chance. This moment may never happen again.

But I didn’t let it get to my head too badly; I am in the moment right now and I should seize it. So, I started telling him about me and the most embarrassing moments I’ve had. He laughed all the way and made fun of me in the nicest manner. Once he stopped walking I almost walked into him.

“We are here.” He pointed up to the sign on top that had their names displayed in bold letters. My heart sank a little. This was it our little moment was over.

“Thank you for showing me around a bit and helping me get here.” I tried to smile through my water eyes.

“Come inside, I want you to be in front row.” He smiled and motioned me inside. Maybe this was only the beginning. Maybe I won’t be forgotten in the crowd. So, I followed him inside. I thought this moment couldn’t be any better, but it is. It was then that I noticed that he didn’t even know my name. We had talked for hours and he didn’t even know who I was.

“Hey, Ollie!” I tapped his shoulder.

“Yeah?” He stopped and grinned at me.

“My name is Adriana.” I smiled my best and held out my hand for him to shake.

“Adrianna… Okay, I’ll remember that.” He simply winked and continued walking inside.
