Joey Devries One Shot

I honestly do not understand how I am in this situation. My mind kept rewinding and rewinding to everything that I did, every word that I spoke trying to understand how I ended up here. One moment I was so scared of what people would say or how they would react, but their approval surprised me. I was so nervous to even speak for myself he had to do it for me. I stood behind him the whole time wishing and praying that everything would turn out the way we planned it would. And it did.

So, I am finally here. We were finally here. And it’s the best time I have ever had in my life.

I sat on the edge of the bed just staring out the clear-pane doors. He was sitting down on the edge of the porch. It was one of the best views I have ever seen. He was looking out into the low sun and its rays made his fair skin almost glimmer. It was perfect. I had just gotten off the phone with my mum; she was worried about our travels. I had to reassure her several times that we were safe and whole.

For a moment longer, I just stared out his way. The smile on my face could not be any bigger. That guy right there, him, he was going to be mine forever in just a few months. All over again, butterflies erupted all over my body. This is too surreal.

Quickly, I slide the door opened and sat down next to him.

“You tired?” I asked. The sun was making a great impact on is skin.

“A bit.” He messed with his hair a bit more.

“I can’t believe we are actually here.” It had been in our plans to come to the beach together. And it wasn’t just any beach it was across the world from home and it was one of the best surfing beaches on earth. Though we were not planning on surfing any time soon.

“Me either, but I am happy that we are.” He smiled as he spoke.

“Me, too,” I jumped off the side of the porch and pulled his hand “come with me.” I urged.

He complied and started walking with me.

“Where are we going?” he asked.

“We are taking one of those cheesy sun set walks on the beach.” I laughed as a spoke because of how cheesy it was actually sounding.

Joey was a quiet person. So, most of our walk consisted of us avoiding the water and occasional stolen kisses. The sun was setting to our left and the wind was getting a bit cooler. Being from a small town in Whales I never imagined to be so far away from home and living a moment straight out of a movie scene.

We continued to swing our hands back and forth.

“You know it’s actual bad luck if you go to the beach and not touch the water.” He finally spoke.

“Is it really?”

“Yes, I read it somewhere. In a doctor’s office magazine, I think.”

I burst out laughing even though he seemed dead serious. I held onto my stomach tightly because I couldn’t control my fit of laughter. After a few moments he joined in and laughed along.

“Joey! That’s about the silliest thing you have ever said.” I managed to say.

But he only grabbed me and ran towards the ocean.

“What? Joey! No!” I tried my best to get out of his grip, but we were already in the water when I managed out.

I started laughing again. Fits and fits of laughter because now we were both soaked and he just said the funniest thing ever. Many sprays of water I felt on my back as I started walking out.

“Joey! Seriously?” I turned around and splashed him, too. Unlike him I took off running towards our beach house.

It’s almost impossible to laugh and run and the same time. I tried my best to  run away from him, but I did not succeed.

“I will get you back, Ryleigh!” he threatened.

“It’s on!” I called after him.

We both ran back home, laughing and threatening each other.

Yes, defiantly best moment of my life.
