I was trying to convince myself that I could write this story in English but then again, English is not my native tongue so I'll probably make a mess in grammar and the likes. But the inner me said I will never conquer anything if I will not try. Sometimes we do need to convince ourselves no matter how unreasonable it is. "Mr. Mayor, congratulations on your achievements ....blah! blah! blah!"

I wonder how the Governor could put up a straight face in congratulating me when I already know that he is one of those who are trying to get out of office. This award that I received from the national government is one of the many vindications that I have received since I became Mayor. There were so many comments that I will not make it that I will in one way or another stumble on the way. But who the hell cares? As long as I am doing the right thing and doing my work, nothing can go wrong. Age is not a factor for success...determination is one.

"Thank you Governor."

"Ahh Jacob, my daughter Celestine will be having her 21st birthday party this Saturday, she said she sent the invitation to your office already. I will be expecting you."

"Yes sir, have received it already. I will be there sir."

But do not expect me to stay long. I do not plan to stay longer than a minute. I hate parties especially those that are thrown by the crowd I refuse to join.

"Oo naman sir. Pero hindi rin niyo naramdaman yung pagtutol namin no sir?"

"Hahahaha, walang tututol. Sama sama tayo dito."

My staff knows me already. They are people I got from the City Hall. I have no friend there before, no one wanted to work with me. the few people that I have in the office are the ones that have voluntarily came to help me. Most of them are not so older than me. Jackie is the oldest in my staff. She is 45 years old and have 3 children. Her husband is a teacher at the local school.
