SANDY'S GRADUATION PARTY

Flashback sa nangyar kanina sa stadium, I stood there while waiting for the graduates to stop cheering and coaxing Sandy to answer. She stood there laughing . But she just stood there. She did not move or did anything. Oh damn, I have to eat my trampled ego in front of the whole city. She did not do anything to ease my discomfort. When the graduates started to get their diplomas, I shook each hand and congratulated the parents. When it was her turn, she smiled at me and shook my hand. SHOOK MY HAND! I wanted to hug her or kiss her but she refused . Lumayo pa nga siya sa akin eh. Inabot lang niya yung kamay niya. Natakot ako, as in natakot ako kasi hindi niya sinagot ang tanong ko. Ayaw niyang sumagot. Ayw niya akong pakasalan. Yung daddy niya, he looks displeased. He was just trying to smie at me because, yes I am still the mayor of the city. Her mother, ibang usapan naman siya. Mabait at malambing sa akin. Nakikita ko ang love niya para sa akin. Parang anak lang. She hugged me when I ws supposed to shake her hand and congratulate her. She said "Congratulations to you to, Jacob." At least, hindi masyadong mabigat ang pakiramdam ko. Dahil ang dami nilang graduates and it was like a thousand na yata dun and Sandy was on top of her class, so ang dami munang dadaan bago ko siya makakausap ng masinsinan. I know that the moment I saw her at the Mayor's office the first supposed meeting, I knew I wanted to marry her. I just could not tell her, well not until she graduates. I wanted her to finish school and not distract her. But with this, I am afraid she might not want to go to med school.

And when everyone was seated, I no longer see her in her seat. I was so afraid she went home without me. I tried to smile. I could not even understand what the University President was telling me. I was just nodding my head. When there were cheers among the graduates. I looked up, and there she was standing with four of her classmates, each carrying a placard that reads first has "JACOB" , second has "Y", third has "E" and Fourth has "S". It was written haphazardly. alam mo yun, yung parang isinulat sa kartolina ng pentel pen just big enough para Makita ko.

I stood up and smile. Para akong baliw dun na nakangiti. Hindi naman ako pwedeng tumakbo sa kanya at hindi dahil nahihiya ako BUT I asked permission sa President who was beaming and smiling and clapping his hand too along with the other officials on the stage if I could go down to her and give her the ring. They all said go. Of course I wanted to fly down to her, but I walked. Imagine, I walked hindi nagmamadali. everyone was cheering and clapping and telling me, go Mayor. When I reached her, she was laughing and crying at the same time. I did not hug her, instead I went on my knee and opened the wooden box that held the diamond ring I bought for her. She nodded and I removed it from the box and insert it on her ring finger. I stood up and hugged her. I honestly wanted to kiss her lips but I know she would be embarrassed so I kissed her forehead and her head instead while I hugged her tightly.

SANDY

I have not gotten over the incident that happened awhile back. I did not know that Jacob would do that. Hindi ko talaga alam. We have never talked about us getting married. Not even once. I wanted to but I was afraid that if I start talking about building the future with him, I will drive him nuts and will drive him away. So I was careful not to talk about it to him. There was only one time when he asked me, if I will have children, how many will it be. I told him a dozen and he laughed.

There was really no sign of him wanting a future with me. I know that he loves me. Alam ko yun. Nararamdaman ko yun. Pero para pakasalan? Wala siyang sinasabi sa akin. All work and career. I guess he wanted to surprise me lang .

Nasan na kaya yun? Sabi niya when after he ate his dessert, he will just go to the restroom.
